Only way is CD !! On the rig where the HIR take place, there should be an installed version[any version] licensed or trial. ;) ;)

AFAIK excluded the Server edition, but i can be wrong.

I'm the opposite in that I prefer a CD to be an absolute last resort when the PC won't even boot or hard disk has got so bad it might as well be reformatted.

The F11 boot time program Acronis uses is a nice alternative to booting from CD since you don't actually load Windows when using it - so in a way it is like booting from the CD, but without the need to go look for it or load it up. Not had any problems with it yet myself. It would have been nice if the SP desktop version had something similar too! Still the price put me off for personal use; maybe better for work critical environment.

But what if your disk is toasted, then you can only rely on ATI recoverydisk. ;)
must admit it rarely happen though.

Yep that is why the CD is last resort for me :D So I keep the recovery CD safe and use F11. But if that isn't possible, like the disk is toast then fall back to the CD. As you say though it hardly happens that things get so bad the disk can't even boot, so mostly it is for convenience just press one key and there it is - no need to go looking around for CD and stuff.

AFAIK Paragon has something akin to ATI,i have it on me newest rig preinstalled in a hidden part.it appears on the preboot screen.
Don't use it though but if recovery with SP fail, its one last resort more.

That is correct as it is a restore, but the image you are HIR restoring, but have SP installed or it won't work.
