I have Privacy in IE6 set to block all cookies except Session. I notice that this appears to block much more than just cookies. For example, when I go to www.pennlive.com , and I click on the little red circle with the white minus sign, it shows 22 items have been blocked. When I enable first party cookies and then go back to that site, no minus sign appears but I only get TWO cookies placed on my pc. I also notice pictures and links that were not there before. So 20 items that are NOT cookies are being blocked, mostly .gif’s and .js’s. Actually I kind of like this but I’m just very curious why the IE6 cookie manager is blocking so much other stuff. Thanks. Acadia
Hi Acadia, Probably adding more to the mistery then solving but try setting the cookies to ask. When I denie them one by one I have to do that 26 times, but the pictures on the page (must be linked through) appear one after each click. Regards, Pieter
Thanks but my question is, why is the IE6 cookie feature blocking 20+ things that are not even cookies? Acadia
Hi Acadia, Have a look at the source of that page. I copied one line as an example: When you enable first party cookies, you get them main page. The rest is al linked through and thus blocked because they are third party cookies. The page must be set up in a way, that you will not receive the images if you block the cookies. Regards, Pieter
That´s good. Now, can you explain it to me? I lost myself somewhere rethinking it. What I don´t understand is why the page gets built up if you deny the cookies one by one, and doesn´t when you decide to block them all at once. Anyhow, they are all cookies. Regards, Pieter
But are they? I only get two cookies put on my pc if I allow ALL cookies. But 20+ items, mostly .gif's and .js's, are being block if I block cookies?!?! (I guess I'm back to not understanding it also) Acadia.
I guess we´ll have to trust Mike on this one: http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/yabbse/showthread.php?t=3599 I always do. And it´s the only explanation that makes sense: blame M$. Regards, Pieter
