    Yo.

I have a problem uninstalling the currently loaded list to install the June 16 update.

Get the error message, "...a required file could not be found. Please correct this problem and try again."

How do I identify and find the required file? How do I correct it?

    Thanks.

Since there are two available installers....IE-SPYAD(original) and IE-SPYAD2....which one were you using ?

Also....when you use the install.bat file to select un-install from the menu....it will be looking for the ie-ads-uninst.reg and adult-uninst.reg files. Can you look for those files to see if you still have them ?

    Edit:
corrected the names of the uninstall files.

    I tried to both un/install using IE-SPYAD(original) and IE-SPYAD2.

You've hit on the crux of the problem: I see no Program Files folder for IE-SPYAD, at all. Therefore, I assume I deleted it it some previous attempt to wipe the slate clean and overcome this problem.

There should not be a Program Files folder for IE-SPYAD....unless....that's where you told it to extract the program via the downloaded executable.

I personally would not be concerned about removing the old Restricted Site entries....but....if that is desired there might be a way to re-create what was in there and remove it properly. Otherwise....I would just download the latest IE-Spyad(Original) and start again. It will simply overwrite the entries that remain and add the new entries

I just downloaded the latest IE_Spyad(Original) and attempted to Install the new list, but received the same error message.

That's the problem: in the absence of this file it wants, it will not overwrite the existing entries.

What is your process for installing....are you attempting to select Un-install first from the menu presented ?

If so....have you tried selecting Install....and not be concerned with un-installing. The install batch file is pretty straight forward....and if it does not find the files(ie-ads-uninst.reg and adult-uninst.reg)....it then gives the required file could not be found message.

Also....after you download....where are you telling it to place the files\folders contained in the executable archive ?

    I just downloaded the WinZip Self-Extractor - ie-spyad.exe.

I follow the instruction, "To unzip all file in ie-spyad.exe to the specified folder press the Unzip button." I am presented with the default, "Unzip to folder," option, c;\ie-spyad, which I accept. I select, Overwrite files without prompting.

Should I assume that this updates the restricted list in Internet Explorer?

If so, does the preempt the need to go into the un/install interface?

At that point in time all you have done is un-compress the needed files\folders into the C:\IE-spyad folder....and have not yet updated any Internet Explorer restricted list. You now have at least two choices of how to merge the ie-spyad.reg and adult.reg files into the proper Internet Explorer registry location.

    • One option
Execute the install.bat file that was un-compressed into the C:\IE-spyad folder....which will present the menu where you can select [2] INSTALL the New IE-SPYAD List....which merges ie-spyad.reg into the registry....and [4] ADD the Old Porn Site Domains....which merges adult.reg into the registry.

    • Second option
Merge the two reg files yourself by double clicking on the ie-spyad.reg and adult.reg files and answering Yes to add the information to the registry.

I followed the first option and things seem to have registered.

So, I guess that's it. Thanks for all your help.
