I have problems with pop ups and with links that it creates in web sites that go to adds. I have read and tried to solve this problem by doing what it is said in other post, but I could not fix it. Thanks

    I am using IE 6.0.
    I have Norton Antivirus
And I ran Ad-ware, Spyboot and Hijackthis.

    My log is as this:

    Hi kings,
    Apologies for the late reply.
You have the peper trojan which must be taken care of first.
    Download the removal tool:
    http://computercops.us/downloads-file-330.html
    or http://downloads.subratam.org/PeperFix.exe

You must be on-line for the removal tool to work.

Reboot your computer after running the removal tool, then run the removal too once more, and reboot again.

    -------------

Next, create a permanent folder for HijackThis (example: C:\HJT\ ) and move the HijackThis.exe into the new folder. HijackThis creates backups in the folder it is ran from.

Then make sure you have all files and folders viewable:
How to Show Hidden Files and Folders

Open Hijackthis, rescan, and place a check beside each of the following items.
Close ALL browsers/windows, and click *Fix checked:

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key just before windows begins to load.

Find and delete the following files listed in bold:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\SearchBar.htm
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\IEHost.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\automove.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\cfmdfn.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\amshept.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\srvcore2.exe
    C:\documents and settings\daniel reyes\local settings\temp\3ww9.exe

Reboot your computer back into normal mode.

Use the Disk cleanup Utility to clean out your Temp folders. Disk Cleanup Utility
Go to Start --> Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. This will bring up the Disk Cleanup Manager. Place a check mark in the box beside Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin. Then click "OK" and the Disk Cleanup Wizard will delete the files you've placed a check mark beside.

Then do a FULL system scan at one of these on-line scan sites: Free Services

Download the latest version of Hijackthis 1.98.0-hotfix. Remember to put it in it's own folder (not a temp folder or desktop).

Post a new hijackthis log here in your next reply so we can check that we got it all.

    Regards,

    snap

    Hi Kings,

Your log is looking much better! Just a few things left.

I guess the ibbho.dll (BHO) didn't want to go so easily, and a nasty 016 has now shown up.

First, uninstall RelatedLinks.lbbho from "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. Look for entries called "Windows XP Related".

Then with only Hijackthis open, check the following and click *Fix checked:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us8l.hpwis.com

    O2 - BHO: C:\WINDOWS\lbbho.dll - {92C4ACAE-BAAB-4C60-8F7E-617470A36339} - C:\WINDOWS\lbbho.dll

    O16 - DPF: {E0CE16CB-741C-4B24-8D04-A817856E07F4} - http://cabs.roings.com/cabs/mmed.cab

Reboot into safe mode and delete the file in bold:
C:\WINDOWS\lbbho.dll <--it may be gone but check to be sure.

Reboot your computer back into normal mode.

Make sure you are using the most recent version of Ad-Aware6 (build 6.181), and Spybot Search&Destroy (version 1.3) and that you have brought then both up-todate, and do another full scan with each of them. Reboot your computer after the scans.

Then once you are sure your system is clean, turn off System Restore, and restart your computer to purge the old restore points. This will remove any infected files that would have been backed up in there: System Restore Instructions for XP. Remember to re-enable System Restore after the reboot, and set a new Restore Point.

For prevention, here are some steps to follow to help tighten your security to help prevent future infection: Why did I get infected in the first place?

You'll find a link there to SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster, which is advised to install as it will prevent bad Active X components from being installed (like that most recent 016 in your last log), along with IESpyad to protect your Internet Explorer browser from malicious sites. I would also suggest using an alternative browser like Opera or FireFox, then using IE only when absolutely necessary for windows updates.

Make sure to visit Microsoft's Update Site and check that all Critical Updates are current for both XP and IE6.

You can post another Hijackthis log if you like, just to be sure we've caught everything this time.

    Regards,

    snap
