If you have done a reformat I assume you have just re-installed the OS so unless you have disabled services, all the necessary ones should be running

    Disable any automatic defragging FOREVER.
Disable all your security softwares temporarily and try again.

If that didn't work, change VSS to RSS :

    Click on Start / Run

    1. CMD + Enter
    2. CD C:\$ISR\$APP\Setup + Enter
    3. ISRSetup –install –rss + Enter
    4. reboot

    Try again

I never turn off SSM and never had a problem. Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling. Sometimes that chases out the gremlns.

I'd try the microsoft copy engine:

    Please perform the following:

Go to the task manager and stop isrservice.exe

Go to the command line: start - run - type cmd and click ok.

At the prompt type: cd \$ISR\$APP\Setup -- press enter

At the next prompt type: ISRSetup -install -vss --- press enter

    hth,

Yes, please try the procedures being offered. I also run SSM, Snoopfree, Shadow Service (PS), and plenty of active icon & window customizations programs each and every time i Copy/Update and have yet to experience even a hint of an error or issue. Only time i've experienced an issue (1) was with trying to Copy/Update with my VMware on. I took care of that with dispatch.

Hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction, if not, keep posting, theres a logical reason why you're having difficulty.

Are your services running as default setup of windows or have you made adjustments to what runs?

You might try a standard default windows install. The tweaks could be the issue.

I fully agree with Peter. Use FDISR in a fresh installed Windows (no tweaking) + FDISR and without any other software and create as many snapshots are needed to test copy/update with new snapshots, new compressed snapshots and new archives.
If they work all properly, than ONE or MORE applications are the reason why FDISR doesn't work.
You can use the function "Empty Snapshot" to do this or you can install your computer from scratch. Personally, I would use the last method, but that is your choice.
The advantage of using an empty snapshot is that you can keep everything on your harddisk.
Post #7 of this thread, describes how to create an Empty Snapshot :

Maybe by generating a Support Info file you can see where your problem lies:

Right click icon in sys tray <Manage FD-ISR>
    Click <Help>, Click <About>, Click <Support Info> Click <Generate Report>

This will give you a detailed txt file about exactly what's happening inside FD-ISR.
