Is this new, and if so can this be changed? It's really annoying. Thanks in advance.

I think this feature saves bandwidth on the server.

Yes, it started recently. Glad I am not the only one that noticed the change. I assume it possibly started after the forum software was updated not that long ago ? It have always been possible to click on attachments and view them without being logged in, but now it's not possible anymore.

For a laptop, phone or a tablet - it is new and is a problem. Imagine you're at a friend's house or other such shady place. To follow an interesting thread with its pictures will now require typing in a password to Wilders. Something I'd rather not do on unsecured networks.

Yes exactly, and the problem is that 90% of the time I just want to read posts, I only log in when I want to post or send/check PM's. So I hope this can be changed.

I think it started only about a week ago or so.

Any news on this? Perhaps someone can explain what's the idea behind this change.

This change was intentional to limit guests, and a large array of bots, to the thumbnail view of attachments. Full size display is available for logged in members only. This is not an uncommon configuration. As far as concerns about logging in from other networks, the advanced HTTPS setup here should allow for very widely available secure access, even from public WiFi. Some banks don't have their HTTPS at the level we're at now.

But why after so many years change this? Is it for saving bandwidth or security, I don't get it. It's really annoying, especially because I was so used to it, so I still sometimes click on pictures when not logged in. Other forums have had this for years, I always hated it, I don't think people should be "forced" to log in.

Well technically you aren't being "forced" to login, it's your choice. But I suspect Lowwatermark has given you all the information he intends to. Your desire for more most likely will go unrequited.

Well if you want to see pictures, you have no choice. And like I said, I don't get it, for what purpose is it done? I don't have the expertise when it comes to this stuff.

Rasheed, the only thing I can say further, is drop it.

I have a feeling it won't be changed, but a little bit more info is always welcome.

Guests and specially bots consume a lot of bandwidth, and bandwidth costs money. Limiting bots and guess so they can only see small images saves bandwidth, which helps the admins to save money :)

OK I see, so it's purely a bandwidth thing, I now get it.
