Huawei will finally release its $2,400 Mate X phone on November 15th

After multiple delays, Huawei's foldable Mate X is nearly ready for launch -- but only in its homeland. Huawei is launching the phone in China on November 15th for ¥16,999, or roughly $2,400. Suddenly, the Galaxy Fold seems like a bargain.
There is a ¥2,699 (about $380) screen repair service, which you might just need when the fragile foldable display sits on the outside.

The company also teased that a slightly upgraded Mate Xs is due in March using a newer Kirin 990 processor (instead of the current Kirin 980) with built-in 5G support.

If and when you see the Mate X outside of China still isn't clear. Huawei told Engadget that its release strategy depends on 5G rollouts in different areas, and an international launch strategy is "under review." We'd add that US trade restrictions may also play a role.
The Mate X is already a tough sell given its price and early technology, but it also won't have the option of running Google apps.

The handset went on sale for a price of 16,999 yuan (£1,900) via Huawei's online store and reportedly sold out out "within minutes".
Phone fans who did not manage to buy a Mate X on Friday will get another chance on 22 November when a second batch will go on sale.

Huawei said the phone was available in "limited quantities" for the first sale but did not give a precise number on how many were sold.
The phone is currently available only in China but Huawei has said it will be available in other countries at some point.

Huawei will release an improved version of its Mate X folding smartphone next year, with a better hinge, tougher screen, and faster processor. The details come from Richard Yu, leader of Huawei’s consumer business, who spoke to Frandroid during a trip to Huawei’s headquarters. Huawei also intends to bring the current Mate X to Europe, seemingly in the first quarter of 2020.

A few days after Samsung revealed that it has sold close to half a million Galaxy Folds, Huawei has announced its own shipping numbers for the Mate X. The company reportedly revealed that it ships 100,000 units of its foldable phone every month.

The Huawei Mate X went on sale in China on November 15 and is not available anywhere else in the world right now. If Huawei’s numbers are in fact accurate, the company would have sold close to 200,000 Mate X phones till now. That’s 200,000 units in China itself.
Compared to the Mate X, the Galaxy Fold has a much wider reach.

The Mate X costs close to $2,400, almost $$300-400 more than the Galaxy Fold depending on where you buy it.
At that price, selling 100,000 units a month only in one country seems pretty impressive for Huawei.
