It appears that HP has provided a workaround:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/produc...ies/5367603/model/5367606/document/c05308850/

"... HP provides a new firmware update on its HP support page, that disables HP’s Dynamic Security Feature .

Go to HP's support page and search for a firmware update for your printer model. Download and install the new firmware..."

    https://betanews.com/2017/09/14/hp-blocks-third-party-ink/

Kinda sneaky way to try to avoid criticsm. Also kinda bonehead move all around: "He He! Sorry. Got to use HP Ink, unless you follow Wilders Security Forum, BetaNews, or happen to frequent our Support Pages."
