how to repair corrupt registry

    if i try to install anything i get a message registry error and when i try
    to run nero i get a message " cannot execute nero.exe " how to fix this ?

    i am using win98se and the only message i get registry error nothing else

    start>run
    type
    scanreg /restore
    hit ok
    choose a date before the error problem started
