AVG Anti-Spyware adds a Windows Explorer context menu icon upon installation. Unlike other programs, including AVGs own Anti-Virus, this entry comes with an, er, colourful icon.

I prefer a minimalist GUI, not one that looks like a Christmas tree. How do I kill the AVG Anti-Spyware context menu icon while leaving context menu functionality intact?

No luck so far... I tried disabling context.dll and shellexecutehook.dll, but they were automatically restored with the next update... anyone?

Just install the latest version (7.5.0.50) and it will appear!

The question is, how to get rid of the icon... anyone?

The only solution is to completely remove the context menu entry by deleting the following registry keys:

    HKCR\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\AVG Anti-Spyware
    HKCR\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\AVG Anti-Spyware
    HKCR\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\AVG Anti-Spyware
    HKCR\piffile\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\AVG Anti-Spyware

You can find them easily by searching for:
