How to force windows in Gnome3 to open unmaximized?

    How to force windows in Gnome3 to open unmaximized?

    Basically every time I open an application, it opens maximized. Even after I unmaximize it and set it to a custom height and width, after I restart it, the settings are lost and the application starts maximized again.

    Im on debian stable, gnome3.
