I posted the recent question about this, and a million thanks to wdormann for pointing me to this thread ...

I folowed the instruction, but my version of nero will either use their own boot image or insist it must read it from a drive (allowed drives are thos it has identified have boot images -- eg: c:\ and a:\) ... I am using nero version 6, what version did you successfully use ?

    thanks ..

Perhaps, you did mean Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator ... I have just tried that (version 6) and it accepts a boot file and the other settings in your example image in your post .. however, it won't work for me because it cannot handle double-layer DVDs it seems ... so, I am giving up trying for now ...

but at least I now know that I can use higher compression levels on TI and get down to sizes that can fit on a single layer DVD and be able to create a bootable DVD with the images on the same DVD .. thanks the info

Shame TI does not come with this functionality built in ..

I'm currently using Nero 6 Ultra, however I believe when I first created the instructions I was using Nero 5.5

    Hello czeto,

I'm also using Nero Burning ROM version 6 (6.6.0.8 actually - part of Nero Reloaded) and find there is no problem using either wdormann's procedure or mine. Follow the instructions as written (best to print them off first) and pay particular attention to the screen shot of Nero's Boot tab settings (make sure you select the "Image file" radio button). The other thing to watch out for is that, when you browse for the bcdwboot.bin file, you need to set the "File of type:" to "All Files (*.*)" rather than the default "Boot-Image-File (*.IMA)".

If there is still a problem please post back and we will try to help you sort it.

    Regards

    Hi all,

I tried to follow your procedure but I'm blocked quite quickly : I created the iso file from the rescue cd created by TI 8 but when i open the file, winISO tells me it's a "non bootcd" so I cannot save boot information to file... I checked to boot from it and it worked ...

    Can you help me ?

    Thanks a lot,

    Laurent

What did you use to create the ISO from the rescue CD?
Have you booted from that very CD to check that is indeed bootable?

Thanks for a so fast reply wdormann !

I used WinISO 5.3 to make the iso and to browse it afterwhile in order to retrieve the boot information file.

when I browse the CD there is only one file on root : readme.txt
and one directory : Recovery Manager (I allowed Windows Explorer to browse hidden and protected system files).

This is the same structure in WinISO.

And yes I'm sure this is the same CD (if I well understood the question) ...

    Any clue ?

    Laurent

    ReHi,

Here are other informations that might help :

The rescue CD created bye TI 8 has no name.

    ------------------------------------------

the content of the directory 'Recovery Manager' (sorry, it's a french version of xp, if you don't understand something, just tell me) :

Le volume dans le lecteur D n'a pas de nom.
Le num‚ro de s‚rie du volume est 562E-6136

    R‚pertoire de D:\Recovery Manager

    06/04/2005 16:36 <REP> .
    06/04/2005 16:36 <REP> ..
    06/04/2005 16:36 1.082.695 bootmenu.exe
    06/04/2005 16:36 22.528 bootwiz.sys

    6 fichier(s) 9.733.738 octets
    2 R‚p(s) 0 octets libres

    ------------------------------------------

The file f11.cfg is readable (by human eyes) and here is the content :

    [start]
    echo Starting Acronis True Image...
    initrd ramdisk.dat /s
    kernel kernel.dat quiet
    quiet on
    mbrcrcs on
    vga vesa

    [continue]
    sysboot /active

    [bootmgr]
    default continue
    delay 30

    --------------------------------------------

The result of the attrib command in the root of the cd :

    > attrib /s /d

    R D:\Recovery Manager\bootmenu.exe
    R D:\Recovery Manager\bootwiz.sys
    R D:\Recovery Manager\f11.cfg

    Hello lo2301,

I think you may have selected an incorrect option for WinISO's "Make ISO from CDROM".

In the "Create ISO form CD" (note spelling mistake!!) window you must select the "ASPI" option not "File" (see screenshot below). Recreate the ISO using this option and try again. With luck that was all it was :)

    Thanks Menorcaman ! Now it's bootable !
A little explanation however : I changed the option from ASPI to file because the ASPI didn't work... I was trying to make that from my external usb cd/DVD drive ... After your reply, i tried with my internal drive (i have a laptop) and it worked with ASPI ! So I don't really know what was the problem with the external drive but anyway ... I'm going on and tell you if I have more problems ;-)

    regards,

    Laurent

    Hi again,

At this point, I can make the backup dvd and I can boot from it but the process seems to stuck. Here is what I can see :

    Starting bcdw ... > ok
    Starting Acronis Loader ...
Then I see the Acronis picture, then a few accesses to the dvd drive then a black screen and nothing more :-(.

I'll try without the 'safe boot option' instead of the 'complete' one.

Or maybe you have some other alternative to this issue ?

Thank you very much for your help anyway !

    Regards.

    Laurent

Does the standard boot CD work?
If not, then the boot DVD won't either.

    I am wondering the same.

Can I just extract the boot image using UltraISO to a *.BIF (same as WinISO WBT, compared using Beyond Compare), and modify the bcds.ini to "bcdw \acronis\trueimg.bif"?

    Hello vareniky and Zero-Point,

As I said in the instruction - ......delete everything other than the command "\acronis\ati.wbt ; TrueImage ; copyboot". Don't include the quote marks though!!

As for the possibility of using UltraISO and an alternative to Nero burning software, I'm afraid I can't comment. However, why not live dangerously and experiment as I did (after all, that's half the fun :))? Just make sure you use rewritable DVDs!!

    Regards

    Hey Menorcaman
    thanks for your reply
I have followed your instructions and in Ultraiso is a bit different but at the end
when the boot screen showed up it could not find bdcw.bin path
    and it stopped there
Sorry I don't use bloatware Nero for one

    Hi Zero-Point,

Have just reread your post again and don't understand why you would want to modify the bcdw.ini (I'm assuming you meant bcdw.ini not bcds.ini). If anything, I would say it's the bootcat.ini file that needs modifying to read:

    \acronis\trueimg.bif ; TrueImage ; copyboot

    Ok I call it \acronis\mycd.bif ; TrueImage ; copyboot
stems from when I read and saved the files automatically defaulted to the above

    Hi wdormann,

The rescue cd with 'complete' option boot but stucks. With the 'safe' option, it boots and presents the acronis interface.
This is the same for the DVD media but I cannot choose an image from the cd-rom drive ... Only from hard-drives. Unfortunately, this is not what I want of course...

Do you know what happened ?

    Thanks,

    Laurent

    Precisions :

The image (in fact the images, there are 6 images) are well located on the dvd. I can check this with windows explorer but the drive is not shown in the explorer of acronis when I boot ...

Try pressing F11 right before the Acronis splash screen comes up.
Then enter "noapic acpi=off" in the kernel parameters dialog.

I did manage to create a bootable almost entirely with Ultraiso and verified with isobuster then burned with CopytoDVD
Tested all sequences right Acronis bootloader, interface the choose from given drive and worked fine. Jjust restored a highly compressed image

    Hi Menorcaman,

I was following the original post and didn't see your technique until now. BTW, I was successful in my modification, but I was just testing the 6 images but TI said it was corrupt, so I went to bed. I'm about to get some RW's to test more with (one reason I was asking ahead before trying myself not wanting to burn through many discs). When I get back, I will try your suggestions.

    Thanks

    Hi wdormann,

    Pressing F11 just doesn't do anything :-(...
