I said four - IE 7 I don't count because only use it for a few Microsoft sites. My default internet app is SeaMonkey, and I have Firefox, KM Lite, and K-Meleon. Each has a purpose and corresponding home pages. They are part of my use of the internet as my hard drive, an extension of my office.
As of now, four. IE8, Opera, Firefox, and Chrome. FF has always been my favorite, but am running Chrome as my default so when I click a url in an e-mail I will get connected fast. I am waiting for FF and Opera to release their new versions, and after checking all three out over a long period of time, I'll uninstall one of the 3.
Update - I had to remove Chrome as my default browser because as the default, it caused my computer boot ups to stall for 60 seconds in limbo, right after the Desktop appeared with no Icons or Taskbar. After the 60 second stall, the Icons and Taskbar appeared. No help from Google Forum or here so I uninstalled Chrome. I uninstalled because the reason I wanted it as the default was because used with Sandboxie, it accessed SBie super fast. The other reason was because if I click a url in an e-mail the web page accessed really fast. That was all lost waiting for the 60 seconds every boot up.
Chrome remains my default, but Im using more and more IE8 as it tries to detect malicious executables. I'm afraid I'm done with Firefox for the time being.
twl845, if you check my attachment, Google has two executables loading with my system at start up. I use jv16 PowerTools 2009 to disable those entries as they just use resources unnecessarily. I don't know whether this could be the reason for your delays (60 seconds is very long). Also, if you have Google updater, I would uninstall it.
Osaban - Thanks for the tip. It seems reasonable that this could be the cause. If I disable those 2 updaters, does Chrome have a way to manually update?
I have manually updated Chrome since disabling those .exe. I think the reason Google has a lot running is because they want to be informed about anything that happens to their applications (some people believe to spy on you). I'm not saying this is the solution to your problem, as I haven't experienced your boot up delay, but you can certainly try and see what happens.
Hi Osaban, I tried your suggestion but that wasn't it. An interesting observation. Looking at your attachment, I see the two files are located in C:\programs. I checked my entire Chrome installation and none of it is located in the programs folder. It is in C:\document and settings\my name\start menu\programs\google chrome. Notice where it says "start menu". That's the menu listing of Chrome. The only place I can find Chrome is in documents and settings. I did a search and the only items in Programs are the menu listing and the Desktop icon. I looked in Windows Explorer, and the only Google folder is for my Google Earth. I looked in that folder and Chrome isn't in there. I have installed, uninstalled and re-installed Chrome 3 times trying to fix the default problem, so re-installing it won't help. At the present time it's uninstalled. What do you think?
I have had as many as five installed at one time, but at the present I just have Opera10 and Firefox 3.5 bigc Edit>>I do have IE7 but never use it.
Good Afternoon! Main-Opera 10.0 #2 Firefox 3.5 #3 Safari 4.0 #4 IE 8. I use Opera & Firefox 80% of the time,and Safari 19% IE 8 1% and that,s a generous estimate. Sincerely...Securon
Hello there, I don't know what to say, honestly other than running Vista 64 which has two types of Programs Files (native 64-bit, and x86) and the Google folder in there is related to Google Earth. The Chrome folder is in the same location as yours: C:\Users\ \AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application. If I remember correctly, you had some delays opening Firefox (with Sandboxie?), perhaps the problem is related to something else. I wish I could say something helpful, sometimes the solution might reveal itself by doing something apparently unrelated.
I think I may stumble on the answer at some point also. I uninstalled Chrome for the forseeable future when that day arrives. I think its gotta be a Chrome thing because FF, Opera and IE have all had their turn as default browser without a hitch. With respect to slow FF with Sandboxie, I have improved that a lot with a compatability fix from OnlineArmor. Thanks for the response.
5 installed, Opera is my favorite but i use Firefox mostly due to needing extensions such as Firebug, SEOQuake etc. Chrome i dislike the most, it's not "installed" i have the portable because i don't particularly even want the thing on my system.
I voted for two, but not for the "just in case" purpose. I use IE for online banking and anything else that I may have a privacy concern, and I use Firefox for all other "non-business" related activities. (I also use OperaTor for sites that like to save my ip address. )
