    Check PM

In short, No Antivirus is going to protect you 100% of the time and even less when you do things of high-risk on your computer. That means, downloading things on p2p, torrents (which by the way is usually always piracy) and opening emails from unknown users.

You should not rely on an antivirus or any software package to make you feel "invincible".

the thing is mate I do know what i am doing, its just I did not have the full protection. It was only a trial verson which I must stress the system tray icon was orange and the application stated that I must update username and password to get 100% protection. I must also say marcos did kindly send me a temp username & password but I had already got the virus

which makes me think that maybe it was the program and not me!

also one reason I bought nod32 is because its the best and you dont need to go to college and do a NVQ on how to use it.

but anyway can we put this one to bed now as my computer is virus free with full nod32 and I should be on the eset system ;)

ps this is a NEW build computer that only just had vista installed so NO torrents or p2p.

    Regards,

    Derek

The trial version has the same protection as the full version. If it was orange, that just means your trial period has ended and it is no longer getting updates. But, the program is still running in full force.

This could have been just an anomoly, something random entirely.
NOD has proven itself to be very effective even with out of date definitions.

Sorry your computer got infected, by whatever means it happened. Glad you are up and running though :)

That depends on what's downloaded from p2p and torrents....and for email, what if known user have compromised machine (how can you know that)? And btw I don't want AV to protect me from EICAR test file ...I want AV to protect me from the real threats in the real conditions.
But some AV can you protect better than other...in spite of "famous" no Antivirus is going to protect you 100%.
