First and foremost, you should install a good resident running antivirus - and update frequently in order to avoid infections like these.

Depending on the Netsky worm variant, you can download a free reliable stand alone cleaner over here.

    Keep us posted ;)

    regards.

Apart from the good advice from snowbound:

    - which version of Netsky has been identified?
    - Are you running an antivirus, and if so, which one, updated when?

    regards.

    Hi guys

I just got informed I have the w32.Netsky.P2mm virus. I've done a search through mcafee...I can not find this particular version so I can get rid of it

I have Norton and it's been updated and is current. It did catch the virus but can't quarenteen the file
The actual file is called "details.txt" and contained "all in all zip" and "Nav23A0.TMP" The two later files are easily contained however the details.txt file can not be and of course, keeps reinstalling the other two

Ever hear of this version and how to get rid of it?

My operating system is Windows Millenium

Let me know what you know, if you know

    Thanks

    Gale

    Hi Gale,

    1. Make sure your Norton is up to date. Then boot ME and disable System Restore:

To disable Windows Me System Restore

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    Double-click the System icon.

Note: If the System icon is not visible, click "View all Control Panel options" to display it.

On the Performance tab click File System.

Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then check Disable System Restore

Click OK. Click Yes, when you are prompted to restart Windows.

    2. Reboot your computer in Safe Mode and run Norton again.

When Norton has completed, make sure it's cleaned up or quarantined any foul stuff--the files you list *should* be safe to delete--and reboot normally and re-enable System Restore.

This should get you started--and hopefully finished. As a side note: You may be able to boot in Safe Mode and simply delete the text file manually, as well. Make sure to follow the instructions for disabling SR (above) before you do this.

    HTH. ;)
