I'm trying to install an application however it conflicts with ekrn.exe and needs it to be temporarily closed.

I tried to close it through task manager but it keeps popping up, how can I close it?

I've tried search, google, and the ESET knowledge database to no avail.

    Hello,

What application are you attempting to install which is conflicting with the ESET Service? Perhaps with more information a workaround can be found, as it is not normally necessary to disable ESET Smart Security when installing software.

You can turn off services that will stop ekrn loading but as said you are effctively turning off your security to load a program and that can't be good. :ninja:

    A Program called GSC.

You can find it at http://getgsc.com/

I have tried their support forums, and they say to ask here.

Well unless Eset has added self protection from the ekrn being termnated which would be fantastic, as far as I know you can.IMO any thing that requires my termination of my security protection to install another app or whatever does not Earn its way on my machine.;)

OK guys I know its possible, but I want to know HOW

This program is legit, I've used it before, but due to problems conflicting with antivirus programs they require you to disable it temporarily to install it now.

I just want to know how, for my own personal reason. If my computer gets infected, or it blows up, or it runs away, that will not be your fault. So please, tell me how to do it.

You need to go in windows services find eset service in the list and right click it, select properties to open That window set start up type from automatic to manual or disable it altogether your choice.Be sure to set it back to automatic latter.

I wonder what problem did you encounter when installing the software in question with ekrn running. There are applications that recommend disabling AV temporarily even if nothing goes wrong with the AV enabled. If it's really necessary for whatever reason, I'd suggest uninstalling EAV temporarily rather than disabling ekrn.

Try Process Explorer and kill the file you want - but thats temporary since when you restart ekrn will be reactivated again..

    Hello,

We tried to reproduce the problem you reported in ESET, LLC's QA Lab using the following equipment:

    HARDWARE

Test PC #1: Dell Precision Workstation 390, Intel 2.66GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, XP Pro x86 SP2

Test PC #2: Dell Precision Workstation 390, Intel 2.66GHz CPU, 4GB RAM, XP Pro x86 SP2

    SOFTWARE
Each computer had a fresh install of Microsoft Windows XP SP2 from the manufacturer's installation discs.

The following software was installed on the computer:
    • ESET Smart Security Home Edition v3.0.672
    • GameServers.Com GSC client v2.00 build 3003.
    METHODOLOGY
ESET Smart Security was installed with the default options and the ESET Personal Firewall was set to Automatic Filtering (the default). The software was allowed to download the latest virus signature database.

The GSC software was downloaded and installed onto the two test computers. After installation, two accounts were registered for the testers and chat was initiated through the voice server between the two computers.

    RESULTS
All software performed correctly with no errors or problems occurring during the testing process.

    _______________________________________________________

ESET, LLC has tested the GSC Client v2.00 build 3003 with ESET Smart Security v3.0.672.0 and not been able to determine any compatibility problems such as performance issues, crashes, changes to behavior, false positive alarms and so forth.

At this point, there do not appear to any incompatibilities between the two programs.

The only thing I can think of is that there might be an compatiblity issue which is only exercised in the presence of a third program, or that there is something in your operating environment which is different from the test configurations used to examine this problem.

Is there anything else you can suggest we try in order to reproduce the issue? If you can send me a message via PM, I can arrange to get an ESET SysInspector log and copy of your ESET Smart Security configuration in order to continue the investigation.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky
