I would like to know if it is possible to create an image of a machine from boot-up without having installed acronis onto the operating system beforehand?

    Thanks in advance

You can make the bootable True Image Rescue CD then uninstall the program. The bootable CD has the basic Backup, Clone and Recover features. So, you at least have to install the software once, unless you have another system to install the software and then make the bootable cd.

If you buy the boxed version of ATI (CD) you can also use it a rescue cd.

    Hello isaacdatum,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please note that as it was mentioned you can use Acronis True Image Bootable Rescue Media (CD\DVD discs, several formatted diskettes or any other media your computer can boot from) to load the standalone version of Acronis True Image and perform backup\restore operations without booting into Windows operating system.

It is possible that you temporary install Acronis True Image on another computer and create Acronis True Image Bootable Media there, if it is more suitable for you.

You can find the detailed instructions on how to use create Bootable media in chapter "Creating Bootable Media" in the respective User's Guide.

    Thank you.
