Ah, this time a reboot started the service on one system,
and on the other system (that is in use, so a reboot is inconvenient), after manually starting the service it is still running after 15+ minutes.
So perhaps, the issue is fixed.
Let's see what happens the next minutes and hours.

Started my laptop with Win10 and HmP.Alert did not start, after a reboot no problems.

    Anti-malware: Offline. Again.

    Edit: Anti-malware online now.

An hour+ later, the service is still running, both on the rebooted system and on the system on which I manually started the service.
As guest said, it seems OK, for now.
I hope that support, or Ronny, Erik, or Mark can explain what was the matter, why the service didn't start or stopped.

    Dear Stupendous Man,

I installed HMP.A again on both systems.

The Hello problem seems to have disappeared (Issue #2).

Hyper-V Manager still doesn’t work. I understood that there is a script that can solve this, is there another source than the official support for that?

There are no Events in the HitmanPro.Alert Events...

Dear @RonnyT , can you please help to get Hyper-V running? Tx in advance!

    I'm sorry, I don't know about that.
I hope RonnyT can help, or Erik, or Mark, or someone else.

I also had the service is not running error. Didn't have time to troubleshoot it, I restarted the PC after reading about it here and it seems fine for now.
If this is somehow related to the cloud being offline, a safeguard should be put it so that an attacker cannot disable HMP.A by blocking connection to the cloud.

And yes, an explanation would be interesting.

Several hours later, the service is still running, both on the rebooted system and on the system on which I manually started the service.
The system that I rebooted earlier, I rebooted once again, and it is still fine, the service is running from the start.

    N.B.
I still hope that support, or Ronny, Erik, or Mark can explain what was the matter, why the service didn't start, or stopped.
As this was not a single local issue, but on many users' systems, I conclude the cause lay with SurfRight/Sophos. I wonder how anything can stop the service on (all?) users' systems. I think it is quite scary.

    Good remark.
Yesterday, with the "Cloud Protection Offline" issue, the HMPA service did not stop, to my knowledge. I wonder what happened later, that stopped the service on users' systems. Whatever it was, there definitely should be a safeguard to prevent this from happening again.

    Quick update

With the help of Sophos support: got it working with build 723! However it automatically updates to build 750, so it's just until reboot...

Btw HitmanPro Support is still not reacting.

I was reading posts about the service being stopped on some people's machines but had no such issue here. I have no idea what caused the issue but it looks like I was not affected for what ever reason.

I did, however, suffer the 'cloud protection offline' bug though.

Seems it is a momentary issue related to the cloud server, which for some reason disabled the service.

I had the cloud protection offline error, which has been resolved, but I never experienced the service being stopped issue. However I do shut down at night and boot up every day, so that may have cleared it up before I noticed anything.

the service issue didn't last very long, so you probably avoided it ;)

Looking at the build 750-changelog: Fixed WipeGuard running inside Hyper-V guest systems.

Maybe turn off WipeGuard temporarily to test if this helps.

    @Arjan van Beijnum,
In case you can't locate WipeGuard,
you find it under (Settings, Advanced interface,) Risk reduction, CryptoGuard.
The component "Master Boot Record (MBR) Protects disc data structure" is WipeGuard.

That's a lot more convenient than deleting the files at C:\Program Files (x86)\HitmanPro.Alert\Update Files on every boot

I tried to disable all the settings once, including this one.

To me it seems that the issue, that vmcompute crashes if there is any 3rd party injected DLL, is back in Version 3.7.8 build 750…

Sophos Support has escalated this issue to their next level team and I provided all the information, including the logs with the Sophos Diagnostic Utility.

Till further notice I'm staying at Version 3.7.1 build 723.

Today, HMPA Support replied to my yesterday's e-mail in which I referred to my yesterday's post regarding the HMPA service not running.
Support says, "We have taken mitigating measures and applied a workaround."
I hope this means a safeguard is put in place to prevent this from happening again, as BoerenkoolMetWorst suggested.

I have just received build 751 through auto-update, hot from the presses, it was digitally signed just 2 hours ago. No release notes yet on their website but probably related to this.
    Good news.

    Thanks for mentioning!

    Quick update:
    - Hyper-V Manager still doesn’t work for me with b751
    - Also checked disabling CryptoGuard, but even after a reboot it doesn't help eighter

    Reverting back to b723...

    HitmanPro.Alert 3.7.8 build 751 Released

As many of you noticed, HitmanPro.Alert ran into an issue yesterday. The issue was caused by the Microsoft Azure node in Europe and mainly affected users located in the EU. As some of you know, we temporarily switched EU users to the node in the United States as a workaround.
In the meantime, we found the issue that caused the crash of our HitmanPro.Alert Service. We also crafted a proper fix and, at this very moment, all our users are updated automatically to HitmanPro.Alert 3.7.8 build 751.

Release notes (compared to build 750)
    • Fixed issue with cloud communication component.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused :(

Let us know if you run into any issues. Thanks!
