I work in an IT shop and have seen CryptoLocker a few times, so we decided to see if we could mitigate our risk of receiving it in-house.

We installed CryptoGuard on all of our machines, including our file-server, but it's not a server OS, every machine in my office is Windows 7.

In any case, we tried to modify files through the network on our file-server and we suddenly didn't have permissions to do so. From what I've read, CryptoGuard doesn't modify anything like that. Is it possible that it has? As soon as I uninstalled CryptoGuard and rebooted, we were able to modify files again. I am running the current build of CryptoGuard.

    Thanks for any information!

What kind of files were you modifying? Have you deployed the latest build? (latest = 2.5.6.64 or 2.5.6.65).

You may also email me directly erik[at)surfright.com

Cryptoguard changes the Windows Policies. Had the same problem myself. Uninstalled cryptoguard and now only use HMP Alert and Symantec Endpoint Security

HitmanPro.Alert 2.5.6 - That's all I know. I downloaded it from the following website about 17 hours ago:

    http://www(dot)surfright(dot)nl/en/cryptoguard

I forgot to mention, they were HTML documents, we create websites as the other half of my business.

NO you are wrong! CryptoGuard does NOT change policies! Your are mistaken by CryptoPrevent that works ENTIRELY with policies.

HitmanPro.Alert with CryptoGuard works with a minifilter driver.

That is the most recent version. Which files were you modifying? Can you send files from the C:\Windows\CryptoGuard\reverted_* folders on the 'server' that blocked the clients?

Send as an archive to erik[at)surfright.com.

I have "C:\Windows\CryptoGuard\" and it's empty. I did uninstall it if that may have emptied. I really want to help you help me, but everything is working at the moment, so I can't do much testing. I will get it re-installed as soon as I can and get you what you need.

P.S. Thank you for being so quick to reply! Outstanding support!

I must have just got the new update because my computer slowed a lot and i got a double flyout. Before update i had setting for no flyout. Uninstalled and will install the latest update and see what happens.

Erik, I got it installed on the 'server' again and those files are opening with no issues. I'm really at a loss for what could have caused it since this installation has been the only change on the machine in months. I will post again if I have any 'real' issues :ouch:

    Thanks again!

Are there any conflicts between HMP.Alert and Sandboxie?

I had other conflicts, Tom, but it worked with Sandboxie on my XP system when I tested it.

Oh, and you owe me a PM regarding our discussion of firewall / HIPS software. ;)

Sandboxie users have to add the following exclude to Sandboxie to prevent double flyouts in browsers that run tabs in separate processes (IE, Chrome, etc):

Anyone ever had a problem with HMP.Alert locking a search engine where the search engine opens okay, but it will not actually perform the "search" and render any results? It may not be "Alert" at all - may be some other anomaly on my old system:D .

Erik's Sandboxie workaround works very well on Sandboxie beta 4.07.04. Cheers!

    Hello

I am new to this program and see there are over 1000 entries for this thread
and do not want to read each one.

I am interested as to why the GUI has 5 buttons plus a setting button and they all read and do the exact same thing. I mean changing any one of those changes all the others. Are these other buttons there just for show now and will have their own functions inn the future?

    Thank you

I can see why you think they're buttons, but actually they are hotspots that bring up informative "tool tips". Allow the mouse pointer to hover on each of the squares and you will get a feature description.

Yes I noticed the mouse hover feature.

But, What I see when I click them is the same wording and check boxes for all 5 Hot spots plus the settings button shows up. And if I make a change in any one of them it changes all of them to the same setting. Isn't this redundant? Maybe I am not communicating what I am trying to say here.

You're communicating fine. There is only one page of settings and regardless of whether you click one of the five hotspots or the "Settings" button in the lower left corner you go to that same page.
