    Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    Hitman Pro 3.5.6 Build 113 released for 32bit and 64bit.

    Changelog
    • Fixed a compatibility problem with rollback and encryption software (thanks Avinash)

    This release fixes the Master Boot Record (MBR) false positive when using certain rollback or encryption software like Comodo Time Machine or Sophos SafeGuard.

    Hitman Pro tries to detect a rootkit on the MBR by reading sector 0 through both Windows API and direct disk access (RAW). When the read MBR's do not match a message is displayed that the Master Boot Record is compromised/infected. Rollback software behaves like a rootkit and serves a different MBR to Windows and hence there is a problem since the MBR's do not match.

    Build 113 fixes this incompatibility.

    Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    Does this mean that we can now scan normally with (Direct Disk Access)?

    Edit: Wow, I'm impressed! The answer to my question appears to be yes. Still would like confirmation

    So now I'm only waiting for right-click multi-scanning of files that are highlighted or marked on desktop or within a directory. :)

    That works for me, but very weird, for example when you scan 3 files it wants to start HMP 3 times. If you then allow one UAC pop-up, wait for the first file to finish then you can allow the second etc. But if you allow them when HMP is already running it won't start.

    Is Hitman Pro supposed to perform an start-up scan on every start-up or is it on an start-up on every 24 hrs or so?

    I don't know really. I set my Hitman to do a quick scan every startup, but in msconfig I can't find Hitman starting with Windows. Hence, I'm not sure Hitman scans my computer at startup.

    In my case, it performs a quick scan after 24 hrs or so on an start-up so I assume it performs an start-up scan on an start-up every 24 hrs or so.

    It would be very helpful if someone from HMP in this forum can clear up the issue.

    The Scan computer daily during startup function:

    1. Begins when a user logs on to the computer [either by Run registry key (XP) or Scheduled Task (Vista/Win7)]

    2. When the last scan was less than 24 hours ago, it won't perform another scan (that is meant by daily). Unless the last scan detected threats, then the scan is always performed at 1.

    3. When Windows is busy starting up (disk is busy) then the scan is postponed until either the disk is idle or 5 minutes have passed.

    Hope this helps.

    If only more vendors gave so much thought when implementing a start-up scan. God knows how much I am waiting for a real-time version of Hitman Pro.

    Nope, it does not. Checked on both x64 and x86.

    Step 1 - Download and start CCleaner;
    Step 2 - Make sure CCleaner cleaning of System tray icon cache is checked (Cleaner -> Windows -> Advanced -> third item (I think it is called something like Tray Notifications Cache, not sure since I use the Dutch version);
    Step 3 - Run the cleaner and close CCleaner;
    Step 4 - Open up Task Manager and go to Processes;
    Step 5 - Locate explorer.exe and end the process;
    Step 6 - Launch explorer.exe again (in the Task Manager: File -> New task (run...) -> type "explorer.exe" and hit Enter).

    Should be done now.

    Sorry, but this is a lame tip. This will completely flush all icons and any customizations you might have made will be lost. I have some icons like skype, uTorrent, Pidgin etc. that I always like to be visible. Using this will mean I have to make those customizations all over again. Moreover, I have a batch file that does all that you have described without using CCleaner. Tell me if you require it.

    Hi wutsup. I scanned two computers with build 113 and did not get the ad you mentioned. I am using HMP free.
