Just updated to build 108 for 64bit. Enabled LNK protection. Does this give any protection when HMP isn't scanning? Or does it find LNK infections that have gotten in since the last scan?

I accidently clicked on the free license for a month option, is there anyway to undo that? Not that important other than curiosity, since I will be buying a bundle as soon as I find out what Emsi is going to do with their offers.

    Good questions, je.
My thanks and appreciation to Hitman Pro for releasing a fix.
I have enabled LNK protection, and I see it can be disabled in settings if the single out-of-band MS patch on Tuesday addresses this vulnerability.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

The LNK Exploit Protection is a shell extension (LnkProtect.dll) that is active when the Windows Shell (explorer.exe) is running. So the protection works even when Hitman Pro isn't running.

It is impossible to detect 'malicious' LNK files as the LNK files are not malicious. But the icon library file (DLL) that is referenced by the LNK file is. Hitman Pro does detect the malicious DLL.

Thank you for the answer, Erik, and for the LNK protection while Microsoft works up a patch.

It's yet another example of just how great these guys are. Some people may think that HMP is just a GUI to showcase the abilities of the cloud partners' scanners,it's a lot more than that.;)

Hitman Pro just detected what appears to me malware on my computer, however, conincidentally, I just installed Shadow Defender onto my computer and in it's Help section, it says that Setup.exe file is associated with the installation of Shadow Defender. Therefore, could this be a false positive, and if so, how do I get Setup.exe out of Hitman Pro's quarantine?

    @ RCGuy

It shouldn't have detected it, if it is from SD ? but it's ONLY a tmp file so not a problem ;) CCleaner etc will get rid of it and after that HMP should be clear.

Of course i would suggest to copy that tmp file and send it to HMP for exclusion from now on as a FP :thumb:

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Also, I wanted to mentioned that earlier, Hitman Pro said that my computer was vulnerable to attack(click on image link below for details):

    http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/826/hitmanprofix.png

and I clicked the Enable LNK Protection link, but nothing really quite happened.

    Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. And BTW, earlier today it appear that I inadvertently downloaded malware when I was trying to download video software.

Okay, thanks, but how do I send the tmp file to HMP? Also, see my post #1971.

Thanks, Page42. I'm not sure that I understood it all, but what I did understand sounded pretty reassuring. :)

I just read more information from the Surfright Support page and boy, what a bummer that this LNK vulnerability can do. :(

Does HMP have an official Twitter or Facebook page? I see several but cannot tell if any are official. A FB page would be nice.
