You have asked this question when there is already 1880 posts marked/posted here @ this thread.. Many guys are using HMP here, including me. And IMO, its the best malware cleaning software..

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I am astounded by the posts remarkable tributes to Hitman Pro. I have also read about it on the net. It all sounds too good.

    Question ?
Do I really need Hitman Pro with Sandboxie ? I have been given to believe that Sanboxie is a Guardian Angel, infallible in containing bugs and destroying them on sandbox deletion.

Is Hitman Pro FREE ? I see FREE quoted a few times but qualified with a FREE initial scan, then a FREE 30 day trial, then what ? I am not sure.
It looks like the usual "Mouse Trap" practice of quoting FREE all over the place to entice, then slam the victim with a License and fee.

Yet another uninstall after a trip up the Yellow Brick road to see the Wizard of Oz ?

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

It is free for scanning. There's an optional 30 day free license included only for removal. It doesn't even activate unless you choose so.

There's no trial or nags, plus it's very fast and effective on real infections. Only bad thing is that it waits 10 seconds until you can close the results.

Also uploads suspicious files to cloud server, where it's scanned by multiple engines. Very light as well.

    Highly recommended imo.

OK playmates - I give up.
I am going to download this Hitman thingy and try it.
But if it is just another "Mouse Trap" game for juveniles, you will hear from me again.

I will tolerate a "Seek and Destroy" as a total FREE prospect but NOT a "Seek and Find" with a "Destroy" subject to a fee. Am I a sucker - NO !

Oh and another point - 2,000 posts ? - Who cares ? What do odds mean - nothing ! It is MY judgement that counts based on information available, not some consensus of the masses.

    I will return.

Well all my lovely friends and critics, I have actually just downloaded this gift from Heaven and it looks extremely good. Early days yet, but I will scrutinise it for any Booby-Traps and will hopefully with great humility and embarrassment come back and apologise for any undue hesitation I have voiced.

Any con-tricks about fees and it will get the proverbial boot.

But, caution and experience means you get through the Minefield in one piece and do not end up with your leg blown off.

Here is the scan resulting from my first scan after download. Holy Cow !
The damned thing is CLEAR ! I am at present eating my boots.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I've had it on my laptop I guess right after it was mentioned here and haven't activated the 30 day cleanup for it yet. I think it's amazing that the HMP authors allow that and should be praised for it. But, allowing that has generated them some income from my neck of the woods. As I mentioned earlier, I've used it on many folks pc/laptops to clean some of the worst infections and some of those folks were so blown away about getting their pc/laptop back that they paid for it.

Tracking cookies are always removed for free, malware needs a license, BUT, there's a free license which you can activate at ANY TIME, and so you can activate it when you really need it. This free license lasts for 30 days. Your usage of the program is NEVER limited, only removal of malware found is. You can scan your computer for malware as many times as you want for that second opinion, whereas Hitman Pro plays the role of automated removal-expertise and extraordinary detection capabilities.

Hope this explains the license-model. :)

    Regards

Hello Raven. pleased to meet you.

Are you saying that Hitman detects and lists infections, but does not destroy them without paying a fee ? Rather like a burglar alarm, just rings and does nothing else.

If so, Hitman is not a lot of use really. I can get several equally good freebies that Search and Destroy without paying a dime. I hope my trust in going up the Yellow Brick road is not another waste of time.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    Great explanation Raven. :thumb:

John, if you keep the 30-day activation 'unactivated', you can keep using hitman pro as long as possible. If you see some malware turn up, you can delete it yourself, without activating the licence.

If the problem is more wide-spread, you can activate the 30-day cleanup licence and hitman pro saves the day. After that 30-days you can use it to keep scanning.

There are other freebies, but none that are as fast and with multiple scanning engines. You wait 5 minutes with hitman pro, another program you might sit there not being able to use your comp from 30 minutes to a couple of hours. The best part is, rather than rely on one program's definitions, your files are being compared to Hitman Pro's servers real-time when the scan is run, so you're ultimately receiving the 'latest definitions' so to speak, everytime you scan.

edit- also paid version supports the developers, their generosity, but if that doesn't do it for you, soon it will receive a number of key new features. Stay tuned they say.

    Saraceno,

I really am impressed with all the tributes paid to Hitman.
But, if the scan results depend on a fee for removal after 30 days, then it is Adios Amigo Hitman - have a nice day.
I do operate within Sandboxie, so consider other programs as purely playthings in my security ball-park. The better the toy, the better I like it.

    @ John Bull

Your complaint against HMP seems to be on the basis that it isn't freeware, which is unfair IMO.

The trial model they have in place, whereby you can use it for as long as you like as a secondary scanner and if,at some time in the future, you become infected then you can activate a 30 day trial for removal,is very reasonable and generous as far as I'm concerned.

Most other products require you to initialize the trial upon installation making it unlikely that it'll be of true use in the real World.I'd be happy to see this particular model employed more widely personally. Also the support from the developers is among the best I've seen anywhere,it's a great company that deserves as much success as possible.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Extremely well explained and so diplomatic - I appreciate such a considerate and kind reply.

BUT, OK within a 30 day concessional period I can ask Hitman to delete any infections found - WHAT happens after that ? How many 30 day periods do we get as a freebie service ? Or is this magic 30 days a "one off" ? Then pay up or Good-Bye.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

You only get the one '30 day trial'.But,if your system has been compromised and HMP cleans up the infection it's only fair that the developers receive payment for any future infections since they'll have demonstrated it's efficacy in a truly meaningful way, unlike the standard 30 day trial where the product most likely just sits there looking pretty for the period.

remember that even after the trial period it can be used to detect malware,if it happens that you get infected again you'll be confident in HMP's abilities by then.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Has anyone else been getting "Upload failed" for every file that it tries to upload to the scan cloud lately? I just reformatted and reinstalled Windows and now I am getting this error every time. I have tried disabling SSL and making sure proxy settings are turned off to no avail.

(And no I didn't reformat to get around the licensing...I have yet to activate the 30 day trial)

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    Oh dearie me.

I am not a Scrooge or miser, I have enough cash to buy Hitman let alone pay their small fee, but I also have a policy of not entering a single element of financial data on my computer.

Sending cheques by post overseas is also a NO-NO and arranging a bankers order with all the account and sort code details etc. needed, plus foreign currency conversion is too much of a drag for this kind of piffling enterprise.

So from what you say, it is clear that Hitman is a "Mouse Trap" and not FREE and therefore not for me. I will be more than happy to rely on my current battery of minders and will take pleasure in uninstalling Hitman when the trial period expires.

I will take no further interest in this thread. My question has been answered.

Thank you all very much for your patience and information. As I have said on many occasions - If you want an answer - ask Wilders.
    Enjoy your Hitman.
