PC Protect prevents Hitman Pro, Norton Power Eraser and Malwarebytes from working correctly. SAS Portable Scanner takes care of it.

I think this was brought up earlier and that there was a workaround - might be a new version tho.

Avast! 5 Free let it through and let it do what it wanted to the system (Avast! blocked some network activity). I was going to try a work around on the system with NIS 2011 BETA but even when I excluded pcprotect.exe from scans Norton wouldn't let it mess with the system (but it did install).

When it is allowed to work properly Hitman Pro does detect it. Norton Power Eraser doesn't.

Keep holding it till HMP started, keep holding if you have an UAC question.

PC Protect disabled running .exes through double clicking (except with Norton installed). I had to right-click>Run As. Tried holding down CTRL put it didn't work.

Edit: MBAM wouldn't run at all. NPE and Hitman Pro couldn't connect to their clouds which NPE needs to even start.

Go to the HMP executable, rename it to svchost.exe and try starting the svchost.exe while using Force Breach (Hold down LEFT CTRL until the HMP window appears: -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6eRWTv2STk-] ).

Really? How does it do this? I have the program but wouldn't know to use it to find malware.

Is this a rootkit? Weird that you mention atapi.sys. I think that came up in an blue screen error message I had a not too long ago.

Well it's strength is in digging out all traces of an application as I'm sure you're aware. It's been useful for me in deleting some rogue AMs ;by using the 'Hunter Mode' it'll disable any running processes and delve into the registry.;)

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Renaming mbam.exe to mbam.com or mbam.bat will get a scan up and running so it will probably work the same for HMP.

Funny thing about this exe killing rogue is that Task Manager seems to be still accessible and its process can be killed, or at least that's what I found in an XP VM?

PC Protect.exe installs the one below:

Franklin, if possible, try Hitman Pro's force breach mode.

Does that work? I know it can apply to hitman pro's icon, or .exe from program files or from a USB.

If that doesn't work, as you mentioned, renaming the file should make it work. Just like SAS portable scanner which has a random filename (useful program by the way).

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I killed the process through Task Manager.

I didn't try much on the Avast! VM and was going to try more on the Norton VM but Norton (once I added pcprotect.exe as an exclusion) detected some processes including svchost.exe and the only symptom displayed was the rogue being present.

With the little time I had I couldn't be bothered to do anything further.

Great! Also like the section about coming out with some sort of centrally managed solution for enterprise environments.

    Great! I'll read it later.

Last week Hitman Pro started a quick scan upon computer start-up. I turned it off in the settings as it had been off before. Again today, a quick scan started at start-up. o_O

I have turned it off again.

That most certainly should not happen. Do you think you can reproduce?

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Started computer today (turn off every night) and no quick scan. Came on here and then opened Hitman Pro. In settings 'Scan computer daily during startup' is checked. I opened the BETA that is still on my desktop. The same setting is checked. When I was using the BETA, that setting was off.

That's the only information I can think to provide. I'll leave the setting turned on for now and restart the computer soon to see if the quick scan starts.

Edit: Turned the setting off in the BETA and removed it from the computer. Restarted the computer and the quick scan started. Turned off the setting in 3.5.5.98 and closed the program. Immediately, opened it up and the setting is checked again!

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    Hi All
@ Erik Loman and other members interested in:

Let me assure that I Hitman Pro v 3.5.5. build 98 does not have any bugs as I had previously thought by mistake.
In fact, I only had to reinstall VMware Player 3.x that the problem of Winsock2 reported as corrupted has suddebdly disappeared.:thumb:

It is likely that some VMware Player leftovers had caused the issue.

    O.S Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (Italian)

    Please see image attached:D

I'm very sorry for late reply, unfortunately I had to deal with health issues.

    Regards
