Funny you should mention EEK. As I had things already set up on the system I tried EEK once again (never did very well for Scriptors when tested in the past) and the results were equally poor. The main issue here is that although some scriptor malware, while initially detected and deleted would repopulate and infect on reboot as the persistence mechanism was not detected.

(Note to Plat- Sophos Scan and Clean does indeed give the same results as HMP)

I'm sorry! I'm a regular user not an expert and some discussions can be complicated. I use microsoft defender and sandboxie and i haven't had any infection for many years.

Can KVRT be set up to run automatically like HMP?

As far as I know you need to make a bootable disk or flash drive to boot from and it scans outside of Windows, unless I'm mistaken.

It's just an on demand thingy that does not need to be installed as such:

    1). download KVRT
2). save that file to some directory (I suggest making a new directory for it somewhere- on my system I put it on a secondary drive as D:\1).
3). When you run that file, a kvrt data directory will be created on your C drive

That's all- then just run it (no CD required.

Agree with you on both points. It has certainly worked wonders for me in the past.

Oh, then what tool did I download and create bootable media for?

Probably Kaspersky Rescue Disk (differs from the on-demand KVRT).

    Feature request:

Could we get an easy way through the UI to delete the logs? I just searched and found well over a thousand logs from scan just wasting space. I've managed to manually delete them through File Explorer but it would be easier through the UI.

    Thank you for considering.

Yeah, that's where I found them. You can delete individual logs through the UI but when you've got over 1,000...

    Hey Krusty,
You're right, it would be easier via the UI, but I simply renamed the Logs folder "LogsOLD" and deleted that. I created a new Logs folder and house cleaning done.

Krusty- If the logs are an annoyance and you don't use/need EWS, Shell integration, or scheduled scans have you considered using Sophos Scan and Clean? No installation involved and no license needed (essentially a mirror product).

ews/scheduled can still be done by adding to a shortcut or task scheduler (the command line switches are the same)
    /ews /scan /clean /quiet etc

    Hi cruelsister,

I have a license for HMP.A and have a scheduled scan set to run every day so I may as well stick with HMP.

With a scan every day (possibly overkill) it doesn't take long for the logs to pile up.

    Thanks.

I have a backlog of HMP scan logs going all the way back to 2016. I don't run it every day, but there are 1,216 of them. For a whopping total of 2.9 MB! ;)

Yeah, they're not large but I like to keep my PCs tidy. I don't want or need over a thousand old HMP scan logs.

You might like Treesize Free, an app that can show you all of the folders on your drive by size, and the size of files contained within them, from largest to smallest. Or by date, which is sometimes useful for finding recently added files.

Thanks, but it's not really about free space, it was and is a feature request to the HMP dev's so we can delete the logs in bulk through the UI instead of one at a time, or through File Explorer.

    Cheers.

Well my original point was that the logs weren't that much of a space requirement. As a feature request, I doubt that will take a higher priority over other development needs. Good luck!

It's a bit disconcerting that, more than a week later, HitmanPro/Sophos have not addressed this. Doubtless I'm not the only one whose confidence in the product has been diminished by this report, and they haven't done anything to build it back up in the meantime.

It's been a bit longer than a week! They were informed (with supporting videos) over 5 years ago and the issue has always been ignored.
