HitmanPro wants to connect ip 194.134.5.5 for DNS when scanning.

Why it is need and is it necessary?

I know, that is way I used "illustrate" and not proof.

Besides it was mentioned that MRG passed samples to favour a company in their test. Compare business situation of Hitman Pro with the company mentioned in this accusation. Do you think they (The Loman brothers) can mobilise the same sort of influence or pecunia?

    Regards Kees

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

When Hitman Pro starts scanning it consults either Euronet or OpenDNS to see whether the computer's DNS configuration is valid (hence, see whether the primary and secondary DNS IPs aren't blacklisted).

Since you cannot consult the configured DNS servers, as they might point to a bad DNS server, we consult either the Euronet or OpenDNS servers directly. The 194.134.5.5 address is the DNS server of Euronet.

Also, Hitman Pro is a system based on association mining using live information:

Malware usually communicates with other computers on the internet (command & control, spam, etc.). Also malware droppers retrieve additional files from the internet. The IP addresses and URLs are verified against several blacklists to determine whether a process communicaties with a blacklisted server or whether a file was downloaded from a blacklisted webserver.

So during scanning you can also see several DNS requests being made by Hitman Pro, in parallel of other classifying, consulting and uploading tasks.

    Kees :)

I am a litttle disapointed in your reaction :doubt: You shouldn't beleve everything posted here on Wilders, defenately not from Paul since he never presented any proof for his accusations :thumbd:

    There's statistics and statistics.

I think Kees was positing this through his use of the word "illustrate".

He is one of the more knowledgeable posters and wouldn't make the basic mistake being suggested.

so, Erik, I bet G-Data and A-Square account for 90 percent of detections.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Well I have nothing more to say about MRG as they are dishonest and untrustworthy and that will never change to me!!

This is maybe why? Look at the last 3 posts! http://malwareresearchgroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=165 There's more than meets the Eye here read between the lines! Also this is a HMP Thread not a Prevx one!

I will not comment about MRG again!

    Regards,

    TH

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Prevx scan engine is used in Hitman Pro, and the MRG tests pertain to both applications, so there is no OT from my viewpoint. I was glad to see MRG's high marks given to Hitman Pro, and pleased as well to read PrevxHelp's statement. Joe has been mentioned more than a few times in this thread, that's for sure. Well done, Hitman Pro. :thumb:

    Well Rednose,

Here we are two Dutchies addressing each other in English. Guess we need an Aussie (Iangh) to explain to each other what we tried to communicate.

I will take your advice from now on and will not believe anything anymore, starting with Santa and Rudolf the ... :D

    Actually, Pommy Aussie.

I have always been impressed with the Dutch grasp of languages.

Must be something in your genes. The Belgians, Germans and Scandinavians have it as well. Definitely not the Brits and Aussies!

To those of you with English as a second (third..) language I salute you and thank you. Sure makes life easy for me.:D

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

    Version 3.5.4 - Build 81 is released for both x86 and x64
    • Added Quarantine and History functionality under Settings.
    • Changed the default action to Quarantine on malware items that are recognized by just one AV partner.
    • Malware items are excluded from the scan result list when the item was reported by the user as safe and the item was recognized as malware by just one AV partner. The reported as safe item will reappear when the item is classified as malware by two or more AV partners.
    • Fixed a problem handling ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad items.
    • Vista laptop computers running Intel(R) Turbo Memory Driver iaNvStor.sys cannot use the new disk access mode to detect and remove TDL3 rootkit. This is due to iaNvStor.sys incorrect implementation of specific I/O control codes. Users who suspect a TDL3 infection should disable this specific Intel driver (the iaNvStor.sys is non-essential) and run Hitman Pro again.
Hitman Pro build 79 and 80 stopped working when this driver was present.
    • Removed the Windows 7 Task Bar integration as it causes random program stops. The issue is still under investigation.
    • Updated internal whitelists.

I think build 81 fixes your problem as the crash might be related to the Windows 7 Task Bar integration.

Additional scan methods such as full scan that we could once in awhile and also scan Folders such as Program Files or Windows? It would be nice just to add them to Right click scans!

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

The Report that this file as safe action hides a possible false positive (these are hidden as of build 81 when the file was marked as malware by just one vendor).
The right-click scan function (see Settings) scans all PE-files under a specific folder. Although this scan is not recursively as this will put too much strain on the scan cloud. Also Hitman Pro scans the entire System32 by default (normal scan).

But with full scan I know what you mean ... Full scan will appear early next year (probably for paying customers only as bandwidth is pricey).
