Seriously folks...why do we need to have a resident AV run when we have Hitman Pro?

Why not just run Hitman Pro on every file you download and run Hitman Pro every day?

Less resources, less RAM taken and smoother and faster PC. :thumb:

Could work for experienced users, but there are drive-by's and autorun malware. Also, it can't scan your whole system.

    1. So how do we stop drive by's?

    2. How do we stop autorun malware and what is autorun malware?

    3. Doesn't Hitman Pro scan all the areas that malware would run from?

    1. Update your software and system, virtualize browser / system, or application control (SRP, Anti-exe, or HIPS) are the best solutions. I've done all three and more.

    2. Virtualize your system / usb devices, disable the autorun feature, or application control. Malware just takes advantage of it.

    3. All the common areas, not entire system.

why do people always say prevention is better than cure :gack:
'Hitman Pro is a second opinion scanner' I didn't say that, the HMP developers themselves are saying it ;)

Better that I prevent malware from executing than trying to clean it up after. I only use hitman pro cleaning up after the fact on pcs that people ask me to cure lol.

    1. What's SRP, Anti-exe?

    2. Is there any free HIPS that works well with TrueCrypt containers and is a HIPS only?

    3. How do you disable Autorun in Vista? Doesn't autorun just apply to inserted CDs? Because I never insert CDs.

    4. What's "application control"?

Perhaps TheMozart's questions could be answered in another thread (or privately) so that this particular thread can remain on topic for those of us wanting to share information about HMP.

Obviously prevention is better than cure. Prevent having common sense when browsing and virtualizing your applications vulnerable...

Hitman Pro and MBAM is just to say: Yes, it's all right!

    1. Software Restriction Policies and anti-executable. Search online for more information.

    2. I think they should all work. Check these links:

    3. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-autoplay-in-windows-vista/

    4. Basically anything that checks the behaviour of applications and controls them. I've already given you examples.

All of this should be in a new thread, and you should Google things more.

trust me, i'd rather see some of my friends and relatives use a real-time AV than one on-demand. ;)

    What is renmant scanning?

And what are super cookies? And does the current HMP not detect super cookies at current and can those missed super cookies infect my PC?

Remnant scanning scans for remnants like registry keys that are left behind after a malware has been removed from the computer.

The most common definition of super cookies are Flash cookies. Like tracking cookies, they can be used by advertising companies to track users. Flash cookies can contain lots more information than normal cookies and their lifespan is a lot longer, and until recently you couldn't delete them using the browser itself. However there are lots of programs like CCleaner or browser addons like Better Privacy, Ghostery and lots more that will block or delete them.
