If you don't install it, you can use it as a portable program, and put it anywhere.

Indeed. Hitman Pro is just 1 executable. Put it where you want. But people tend to loose their apps so we added the option to move the EXE to Program Files.

Good to know. I didn't really do much research into it. I'll just throw this thing in with my other on-demand scanners then. This looks like an ideal 2'nd opinion scanner. So light since it's pure cloud & not sig. based, and with those 4 vendors that's one extensive library of malware. I hope that you keep it the way it is, a dedicated on-demand scanner, and not bloat it down. It is great at what it does.

I'm not quite as generous as the other people who say "just buy it", but if it ever does find a threat and the clock starts ticking a a result, I would certainly pay for this.

It still may not be a bad idea to include an advanced install though... for people who tend to lose their apps and like to choose where to install them. Then this thing = perfect.

Reverting the accidentally activated Free License

We have begun reverting the accidental Free License activations from the back end.

    1. Which licenses have been reverted
    A. If you have used Hitman Pro on a machine BEFORE 2011-06-17 (build 124) then the Free License is deleted from the back end.

    B. If you have used Hitman Pro FOR THE FIRST TIME on a computer BETWEEN 2011-06-17 and 2011-07-16 then your Free License could not be reverted. You may contact me for a license.

    2. Return of the Free License button
Deleting a license from the back end doesn't bring back the Free License button.

You need to delete the HitmanPro.lic from your PC and restart Hitman Pro and go to the License tab under Settings.

The HitmanPro.lic file is located in the {LocalAppData} folder. This translates into the following folder:

    XP C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Hitman Pro\
    Vista C:\ProgramData\Hitman Pro\
    Win7 C:\ProgramData\Hitman Pro\

We will release build 128 today so that you don't have to delete the HitmanPro.lic file manually.

NOTE: Only if your computer used Hitman Pro before 2011-06-17 (matching item 1A, see above) then you should delete the HitmanPro.lic. Otherwise you will be treated with an error mentioned in item 3 (see below).

    3. What if the above did not work for me?
If you click the Free License button and get the "Your free trial period for Hitman Pro is expired." message box then your license (on that computer) was not eligible for the revert (the back end did not delete the activation). See also item 1 above.

Again, if you think your computer was not included in the revert (see item 1) then contact me and I will give you a free license.

If you have any questions, please feel free the ask them.

Okay, am I the only idiot that misread the instructions?

I removed the .lic file, reopened Hitman Pro, went to license and clicked the free license button.

Now it says I have 30 days free license through 8/19.

So, did I just screw up? I don't have any malware presently and don't need the free 30 day period to begin today.

Sorry for the confusion. (I am a long time user, way before the cut-off date from June.)

Thanks for any help with restoring the free license so I can use it when "needed."

    EDITED TO ADD:

I just went back in and removed the license file again and it seems that the program is now back to "not activated". Hopefully this resolves whatever issues my earlier confusion may have caused.

You should NOT have activated the license as it will start the Free 30 Day License again (I've sent you PM).

If you have performed the steps above then DO NOT CLICK on the Activate Free License until you have malware to delete.

    Hope this helps.

I did the same, save for clicking the license button and my copy of HMP says: "Application not activated. Removal of viruses and other malicious software is disabled."

I screwed it the same as you, Blues7. :(
I would prefer not bother Erik with my problem if possible, as he surely have enough on his hands right now. Maybe could you PM me the solution that he will be giving you if it is doable and if you don't mind.

Don't mind at all if it's a generic fix as opposed to one specifically tailored for us individually. I'll be in touch once I know.

For those folks like Blues7 and ruinebabine, who misread your instructions, I suggest that you change your instructions to something like this...

"You need to delete the HitmanPro.lic from your PC and restart Hitman Pro. You can then go to the License tab under Settings to confirm that the expiration info is gone, but DO NOT CLICK on the Activate Free License until you have malware to delete."
