I'm running Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Premium at the moment, and I was wondering if you guys has any advice on a HIPS. I'm trying out Threatfire free right now, but it feels like just more of a scanner.

It also has to be compatible with Vista.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,
    Matt

Try Antivir + Threatfire free + DefenseWall

The latter two have me protected from infections without having a AV (we had Antivir free but the updates did not come through, so I dropped it).

I use Anti-Executable, DefenseWall and ScriptDefender to stop the execution of infections. Any other possible infection is removed during reboot.
I don't use scanners anymore : too time-consuming, too incomplete and removing false positives damages your system.

I have a slightly different shield of apps but accomplish nonetheless the same results= PROTECTION!

Anti-Executable + EQSecure 3.4/ThreatFire + Sandboxie, all covered and run in shadow-mode with Power Shadow

As far as script intervention, i use from Jason's Toolbox Script Sentry for that duty.

    TIP:

Add scriptdefender as an untrusted application in DefenseWall. When you allow a script to run, it will be run in the untrusted mode! Every script should do its job as a limited user, so when it does not, it is suspicious. DefenseWall will protect you in case it tries.

Along with Avira Personal Premium I have DefenseWall and Online Armor 2.
I would like to try ThreatFire but at this time I dont think I need it unless someone else here can explain to me that I do.
