Someone told me that v2.02 was the latest version of HiJackthis.

But when I went to the authors website and http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html it downloads the "latest" version as v1.99.1

Is v1.99.1 the latest or is v2.02?

    Thanks.

I 'm not pleased that Trend Micro acquired it, I prefer the 1.99 version (burned on cd-rom).

Why are you not pleased about that?

In fact the Trend Micro version incorporates quite a number of bug fixes and useful as well as long awaited additions, and it is 99% identical to what Merijn originally meant to issue as v1.99.2...

That doesn't mean it is perfect, or that product support couldn't better, but there really is no valid reason to continue using the old version.

I can't be more specific, but I remember reading something about the Trend Micro version I wasn't pleased with.

And I'm not sure I want to trust Trend Micro with my computer. Version 1.99 has never given me any problems.

Could have been the issue with the "misleading" AnalyzeThis button, wherein no analysis is done but info from the user's computer is sent to TrendMicro.

It reads a certain autostart location wrongly, and a number of other important ones aren't included at all . It simply gives a less complete picture than the most recent version.

I'm afraid that whether it has or hasn't given you any problems is neither here nor there...

Most of what you will read is based on limited, incomplete and inaccurate information. So check it for yourself and then make an informed conclusion.

    Fly,

I consider Tony Klein as one of the guru's on autostart locations, so do yourself a favour and take his word for it.

    :D

I'm using the TM version, though just as a checkup from time to time.
It works well, and the only issue some have with it (and a valid concern, IMO) is that of privacy alluded to above by Page42.
The very easy workaround (for those concerned) is to refrain from using the "Analyze This" button.

Aside from that, those familiar with 1.99 will have no surprises with 2.0, except that the classic "dynamite blaster" icon has been updated.
    Kinda miss that.

That could easily be the case. I don't like companies gathering information from my computer without my explicit permission.

I quite agree. Few of us do like it. The AnalyzeThis button should be renamed the SendUsThat button. However, as Tarq57 correctly pointed out, "The very easy workaround (for those concerned) is to refrain from using the 'Analyze This' button." ;)

Because if you don't, most of what you believe will be based on incomplete, limited and inaccurate data. Self due-dilgience is important if you value the truth and accuracy.

    I have Hijackthis 1.99.

But that's not the only software I have analyze a startup list !

    I just don't trust TrendMicro. Don't ask me why, I just don't.

And in my case, there is no need anyway.
