Hijackthis Log...1st time...please help

I got directed to this forum while surfing cnet.com looking for a solution to my problem. I have been browsing the posts for a couple of days and I must say that this site is a warehouse of knowledge for computer "illiterates" like myself. I was paticularly interesed about hijackers and spywares 'coz that's what I have right now. My IE homepage was taken over and now it opens to an about:blank site. And I have pop-ups as you would expect. I read some posts re: this about:blank hijacker and the help you guys extended.

And also I got one more

when I log on my comp 2 things happen:

1. system32 folder opens up even if the item regarding hidden folders under folder options/view is checked as to hide hidden files/folders. This folder is supposed to be hidden right

2. a message pops-up saying unable to start driver for HPHipmll.exe. It has RTL on the title bar and when I hit ok to close it, a message to send to
Microsoft re problems pops up. I just hit don't send. I am not sure if this started happening after
the hijack or before and what does the message pertain too?

I really have no in-depth knowledge about computers. Just the basics. I hope to learn some more from this forum. Thanks again.

Please go http://tools.zerosrealm.com/dllfix.exe and download the dllfix.

Now, doubleclick on it and install in folder of choice but on the root drive, most likely C:\

Now, Run start.bat and press option 1. A search will start, let it allow to finish. At the end, output.txt will be created in the newly made folder.

Now, Copy and paste the complete contents of output.txt in a reply to be checked.

Hi bounty69sx,

Run start.bat again and choose option 2. Hit '1' and enter dll name manually:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\CNHAI.DLL

Download and run AdAware : http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/ (make sure you have latest updates) and run it.

Also run CWShredder finally to clean up other entries.

Then post a new HijackThis log and let us know what problems are left.

Here is the latest hjt log after running dllfix, AdAware, S&D, CW. When I opened my browser again it was still the about:blank page then I change it to the default w/c was Dell's. I hope it has done it.

Another thing. When i ran CW it flagged this file: ctdrwins.exe. It advised to skip deletion if I'm not sure if it was impt. or just a random string of letters. I skipped and copied it down for posting here. Should i delete it.

Hi Pieter...thanks for the speedy reply...after I posted that log you replied to, I ran Norton AV and found 2 adware this time. One of them was the orig flag(cnhai.dll) and a diff. one. Both adware accdg. to Norton. Before I couldn't delete cnhai.dll with Norton but this time Norton AV deleted cnhai.dll and the new adware. Then I ran another HJT and this is the log that was generated. Anyway I will clean out this junk and post another log. But so far the "about:blank" SE hasn't reared its ugly head and no more popups when online like now.

Here's the log after I checked and fixed the items on HJT...The R1 with the about:blank item was no longer on the log prior to this one...Norton did a good job in deleteing it finally i hope...of course with help from you guys...

Hope this is a clean system info finally...the i can start building up my defense...

What can you recommend as a decent router with firewall...right now i'm looking at a DLink DI 624 Airplus Xtreme router. Got any suggestion that won't tax my newbie brain...Thanks alot for your help.

Thanks for the positive reply. I have just downloaded and installed the ff prog.

Spywareguard/blaster and Winpatrol and I am still looking for a decent gateway/router.

Thanks for all the help and keep up the good work. You folks are continually educating novices like myself. Hope to pick up a lot of pointers.

I will follow that thread re firewalls.
