I was attempting to fix a computer for a friend of mine who has been having some major trouble. This person has kids of all ages who have downloaded countless programs with trojans, keyloggers, trackers, popups, homepage, taskbar, and many other things. I have never seen a computer with as many running processes (over 40), or entries in hijackthis. Many of them have been removed. I have run:
    -adaware
    -spybot
    -spyware blaster
    -spy sweeper
    -"pepper" removal program

About 3000 objects, cookies, or files were removed using these programs and I just emptied the temporary internet files which totalled 1.7 gigabytes!! I have also removed all the familiar things using hijack but there are still problems with the computer:

-The computer has trouble shutting down because there is some type of program that it cannot close (ie. "wait or end program?").
-The computer still has an occational random popup (but much less frequent than before)
-The computer is slower than normal (shows 55% cpu availability with no programs other than norton running)
-the active window freezes when I attempt to alter any of internet explorers options (like delete temporary internet files, history, cookies, security settings)

Since then I have installed mozilla and for the most-part the computer is now useable when it was not before.

Here is the hijack log after all of the spyware programs were run:

I just noticed that the current internet explorer isn't installed, I'll do that soon. Thank you all for any information you could give me in helping to solve this problem. If it's not too much trouble, I'd love to know what entries led anybody to determining that a problem existed. You guys are wonderful.

    Hi isolate,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SearchBar.htm

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {000020DD-C72E-4113-AF77-DD56626C6C42} - C:\WINDOWS\TWAINTEC.DLL
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [5QEKE7T5NG9WG2] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Msash0g.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QQM] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\QQM.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Bakra] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IEHost.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stcinstaller] c:\installer\id53.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ENROLLX] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ENROLLX.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ECUR32S] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ECUR32S.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AutoLoaderpz5r1JYTXJIX] "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\TCMKCS32.EXE" /PC="AM.WILD" /HideUninstall
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jvfwejhrji] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\xwxnwhcw.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p4mX37l] TCMKCS32.EXE

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Lrrn] C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\psma.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WCPT] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wintsvtr.exe

    O4 - Startup: KODAK Software Updater.lnk = C:\Program Files\KODAK\KODAK Software Updater\7288971\Program\backWeb-7288971.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IEHost.exe
    c:\installer\id53.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\psma.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wintsvtr.exe

Use the DiskCleanup tool to empty all the Temp folders.

That should at least end more popups. If the IE window keeps freezing you could also try to disable the Kodak Software from starting up completely (I only advised the updater)

Installing IE6 and updates sounds like a very good plan.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    here is a follow up.

I did all of the suggested things and removed a few unnecessary programs from startup. I also ran nod32 and removed about 30 viruses/trojans. I also did all windows updates. Here is the new log from hijack, how does it look?

Is there anything still there that I missed? I did notice that when I rebooted my computer without using safe mode that a few new startup programs were created which I deleted along with the files they were from. Thanks for all the help, you guys are wonderful.

    That log looks good. :)

If you get more startups when you reboot again, could you make and post a HijackThis log befiore you fix anything.

I'm kind of curious what that might be.

    Regards,

    Pieter

It could be that the file at the root of the trouble was twaintec.dll, which was removed with the virus scan, but I'm not sure. The new files at reboot were ones with random file names in the system folder like these from the previous posts:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jvfwejhrji] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\xwxnwhcw.exe

    definitely, but maybe also...

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p4mX37l] TCMKCS32.EXE

The new files were just versions of these with new random names, though these ones were not the files that I saw last.

Next time I'm at my friends house I'll look on the computer and tell you if I see anything new.
