    Re: WSA uninstall unsuccessful

None of that information is actually helpful to much of any situation. "My car has problems when I press the accelerator. Here's pictures of random parts of it."

    Either:
A: You truly don't know this, in which case I stand by my prior statement that you should not be trying to run so many things at once. You're creating a broken system and then being upset that it's broken. See: Too many cooks.

    or

B: You do know, in which case my claim of trolling stands.

In either case, no software is meant to deal with every single possible configuration out there. Programmers will code around common cases. Yours is pretty solidly unique, so coding around it is not useful to anybody but you, and thus at a cost that exceeds any amount of income or return you could possibly provide.

Anyway, "Started with the new version" means that either one of the other security programs doesn't recognize the new version and keeps killing it, or the new use of standard Windows features can't occur because the Windows feature is broken by something else on the system. No software is unbreakable, not even WSA. They'll make it as resilient as they can, but they have to focus on covering the majority of their customers, not picking a singular instance to focus on.

You may just need to deal with the fact that the setup you have is so broken that even WSA can't deal with it.

Thank you...and here is my proof. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge, since. :)

I was expecting to hear from you... my tormentor. ;)

I just have to disagree with your viewpoint.

Oops...WSA just restarted, inexplicably...I thought all was fixed with v8.0.4.21

I have been having problems with Opera browser, having to restart it several times already this morning, due to not being able to get tabs to close or links to open.

Looks like the problem kicked off at...12:19:20 pm...I have been running since bootup without WSA acting up, since Oct 24, 4:47 pm. Time to reboot!

    Re: WSA uninstall unsuccessful

Something on your system is causing process IDs in excessively high numbers - in the hundreds of thousands. Windows starts to degrade and not function properly when the IDs get that high, which will explain the poor behavior. I suspect you have some application with a handle leak which is causing this - Task Manager may be able to show what handle counts are active, but it could also be a process starting/stopping excessively.

So, how does one investigate that kind of thing?

If you can do everything up until

"Thus, handle leaks, can and will cause Windows clients and servers to hang."

that should be sufficient to diagnose this.

(Also, I'm going to split this thread as it has changed direction and the title is confusing now.)

I know it's not my business, but whats the point in all these real time protection softwares? Its not surprising to see you having problems, it is a miracle that your computer is working ...

BSOD? Surely now you realise there are problems with the setup you have. You may well have been using that system as is since 2007, but it clearly isn't following the conductor's baton, and therefore not quite in tune. ;) As time goes on, you'll run into more problems, and not just with security software. The fact you've already experienced issues with the Opera browser is testament to that.

We can all agree to disagree on why or how you've got your system set up that way, but there comes a point where even you have to take a good hard look at it yourself.

Could you configure Task Manager to show the handle counts and sort by that number?

I am not in that snapshot, for the moment. I have just let WSA update this snapshot. But, it is like two different systems on the the one computer.

Like chalk and cheese! One installation of WSA and SSM, in harmony, but the other, not.

    The mystery of computing!
