Is there a registry hack (XP Pro) that will allow you to completely hide a program's tray icon but keep the program service running?

I know that XP offers a feature to "hide inactive icons".....but I don't want that arrow to display on the tray icon bar.

I'm looking for an alternative method.

    Thanks.

i'm sure you can hide the icon, i'm not sure how though!

i haven't used windows for a few years, but i used to use a great program called "Tray Pilot Lite".
it adds a little arrow right at the end of the tray, when you click it all the icons are 'folded' away. re-clicking the arrow brings the icons back

the only problem is i can't find it anywhere! but, it must be somewhere on the internet. it might not be what you want though as it hides all the icons.

i had a quick look at some old screenshots here, you can see Tray Pilot Lite in these screenshots -

here it is at the very bottom right of the screen -

and this is how it looks when closed -
