I mostly use web mail, however, I use my ISP's pop3 account for some things. Outlook Express was fine then when I built this PC with W7, Windows Live Mail was alright. I haven't found a way to get it installed in W10 and do not care for the W10 app, so I had to go with Thunderbird.
Firstly, I dislike the GUI but mostly I'm hating how it functions! Namely: If I start a mail e.g. with letter A, it doesn't show every A in the address book. Even more annoying, if I'm sending mail to multiple addresses, it doesn't auto fill or open the address book at all, only the first entry. What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

As far as I am aware of, TBird doesn't have this capability. You have to enter the letter in the "To" field. Then all addressees that being with that letter will be displayed.

Open Address Book. Then create a list with the multiple addresses. Thereafter, select the list you just created from the "To" field.

If you want to send to multiple addresses manually, select the first address in the "To" field. Then press enter before exiting that field and another "To" box will appear. Repeat as necessary.

Ratchet, With regard to the native Thunderbird user interface I'd agree 100% but Softmaker do two add-ons for Thunderbird which sorted that for me. The first is their Enhanced User Interface and the second is their alternative Theme. Just do a web search for Softmaker Thunderbird add-ons and up they'll pop. You'll see they also do another add-on which "addresses problems with autocompletion of e-mail addresses in the "Compose e-mail window on some systems". I installed all three add-ons and with these have found Thunderbird an excellent email client for my multi-account setup.
    Hope that helps, JB
