Hi OldCelt, and Welcome to the Forums!

In your browser, you'll need to enable "run activeX, script activeX, and active scripting".
It may be a good idea to disable admuncher as well. Pop-ups are OK on these kind of sites.....

    Download Adaware here

    Download Spybot here

If you like, you can enable those items here, then clk links.

    Questions: Your browser? sp2 w/firewall?

edit : "If" you are trying to download w/IE sp2, have a look at method 1 here.
You can apply the same technique to the download sites. Additionally, I would advise against the second method.

Find at the bottom of the page a "download guide". If you still have problems, post back.......

Thanks for your help, I am running win 98. I had a cd player go south so I cant even up grade to ME.

I have done something to my settings that is not allowing me to d/l.

I will get some of these other issue's out of the way and hopefully get back and sort all this out.

    Thanks again

Win 98, eh, well I don't know exactly how similiar IE is between 98 and xp (mine, w/IE6), or if security is different,
but take a look here, it explains the use of a "download location folder" (possibly used by win98 ).

If that doesn't help, try this page. It lists top reasons why downloads might not work.

When you said, "did something to your settings",
do you remember where (ie: network connections, services, etc...)?

Also, are you using some sort of ISP accelerator?

edit: When you clk dwnld, the file pops up and asks "what would you like to do?" Do you clk run/open, or save?
If save, another window will open to ask where? Do you attempt to "save" it somewhere?
Or is the problem bigger than this... o_O
