    Hello,

Thanks in advance for your help. On a reboot this morning, 5 IE shortcuts appeared on my desktop, all to areas of www.your-search.info. My homepage was also reset to that site. Deleted all and reset homepage to yahoo. Rebooted, shortcut reappeared, homepage again changed. Ran Norton anti-virus, it found something, rebooted, same problem. Downloaded and ran Spy sweeper, Ad Ware 6.0, Spybot 1.2, and CW Shredder. Found and fixed lots of problems, but on reboot original problem occurs again! Found your wonderful site, followed your instructions here (basically repeated what I had done already), rebooted. This nasty problem is still there! I even ran Hijack This and deleted all references to www.your-search.info, rebooted and lo and behold- o_OITS BAACK!! So, I humbly submit my Hijack This log for your consideration, and greatly appreciate your help! :) Mike-log follows:

    Hi donahuem,

I think you have acquired a new version of CWS.
    Could you please mail:
    C:\WINDOWS\sstyle.css
    C:\WINDOWS\system\systeminit.exe
Use the address in my profile.

Before you start, please unzip hijackthis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder in the folder it's in.
These easily get lost in a Temp folder.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.your-search.info/search.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.your-search.info/start.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.your-search.info/start.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.your-search.info/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.your-search.info/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.your-search.info/search.html

    Then download and run: http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Use the Fix button and follow the instructions you will receive.

Then reboot and keep us posted.

My pleasure. I will have to take a look at the files to see if there are links in them to other files that might be on your system.
I'll get back to you if I find something like that.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi dionahuem,

    Thanks for the files. :)

One thing you need to check. Look in
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\
if you can find a few of these files:
    ~STRIP POKER.lnk
and if you have this file, could you send that to me please:
    c:\Documents and Settings\sys.exe

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,

I found those files, however I was unable to E-Mail the additional files, even after zipping, because I got this message from Yahoo mail (which is my ISP):

    File name: donahuemfiles2.zip
    File type: application/x-zip-compressed
    Scan result: Virus "Trojan.Bookmarker.Gen" found.
The file attached to this message was infected with a virus that we were unable to clean. You can not upload this attachment.

I will wait for further instructions from you before I take any further action. Thanks, Mike

By the way, a direct scan by Norton Anti-Virus on that specific file does not reveal the virus o_O

    Hi Mike,

Do you have the possibility to create a password protected ZIP or RAR file?
If so mail me the file in a password protected archive and give me the password in the email.

(Ain't it just peachy that we have to mimick viruses to be able to send each other files?)

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Pieter,

I used password encryption this time and the file went through. You should get it shortly. Mike

Got it. Stangely enough, Norton snatched it as soon as I opened the zip.

    sytem32.exe
Beschrijving: De e-mailbijlage sytem32.exe in sytem32.zip is geïnfecteerd met virus Trojan.Bookmarker.Gen

It did the same with systeminit.exe after I updated yesterday.

Merijn, who makes CWShredder has copies, so we can expect a new release for this variant shortly.
    Thanks for your cooperation. :)

    Regards,

    Pieter
