Is Thor Foresight an advancement on Heimdal Pro i.e. stop more bad traffic or is it simply the same with a new name and new GUI
I received three emails from Heimdal this morning. Two of them describe Thor Foresight as, "the unique threat prevention software you know and love," so it does appear to be the same as Heimdal Pro. In these emails, Thor Vigilance is described as "the upcoming flawless Antivirus included in Thor Premium." So it sounds like: Thor Foresight = Heimdal Pro Thor Vigilance = Avira Then, Thor Premium = Thor Foresight + Thor Vigilance I could be wrong of course, the Heimdal emails are not the model of clarity. That aside, if they're adding Avira AV protection to their software, I wonder how or if that will play nice with one's own already existing AV (Norton, Kaspersky, etc.).
Looks like it can function realtime or ondemand. If you to choose to use it realtime then not advisable to run other realtime AVs, if just on demand other realtime AVs are ok.
IMO it is simply the same with a new name and a worse GUI. Heimdal is pretty good with names I guess (DarkLayer, VectorN detection, X-Ploit Resilience, Thor Foresight).
Mine hasn't updated yet, but it looks like Thor Foresight is just Heimdal PRO. Which I am using, though I am still not convinced of its effectiveness. I think the marketing guys are trying to make as much mileage as they can out of incorporating Avira into 'Premium' (which I don't need), new GUI, and yes, those terms are off-putting, especially since they are not really explained and just make it seem like hype.
Yeah, I saw that now afterwards in MT ... Still not sure about all the 'next-gen', but your combo - Comodo Firewall 10 (CS) + Thor Home Premium - does look good .
I just received this pop up from Heimdal offering me a discounted upgrade from heimdal pro to the new Thor Premium. As I only have the one PC running Windows I am certainly not going to upgrade for £49.70 after the discount has been applied. I cannot see many takers at that sort of price.
i would compare Avira Pro detections with Thor Premium before putting it in my combo, since Avira Free sigs are late af.
Last week I bought a "lifetime" Heimdal Pro subscription (expiring in 211 under a Shareware on Sale offer at 89% off. This morning I came back to my PC and there was a big pop-up in the corner announcing Thor Premium. Wonder if they'll honor the lifetime sub if I change Heimdal over to Thor...
Only Foresight, is the foresight (hehe). For Vigilance you'll have to pay the same astronomical price.
Yeah, I took two (via gHacks Deals) ... "lifetime" Heimdal Pro subs, that is. Probably, but I would probably stay on Thor Home and pass on Vigilance anyway in my layered set-ups. Though one set-up with just Comodo FW (CS) and Thor Premium (as per @hawaii007, above) does sound light and attractive.
Note that if you install the Thor home premium trial, it will show an 70% discount everytime you boot the machine.
After trialing it I came to the conclusion that it's just an average product, making exaggerated claims and using names from Scandinavian mythology and other buzzwords to make it look cool.
You can always reuse the trial. Some "advanced" software (macrium does this for example) pretend like they're a big deal by inserting null characters into registry keys, making them undeletable by normal means, such as something like Revo Uninstaller Pro or manual searching, and then when you install the trial program again, it "suddenly" tells you that you've already used it. And here comes this tool https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/regdelnull - it handles this for you so that you can enjoy unlimited trial Ofc, you should consider supporting the devs if you can afford it
Heimdal lured people into buying it's discounted lifetime license just weeks before they rebranded, and now they're forcing people with annoyance of popups every boot to upgrade to the Avira engine powered "revolutionary AV". it's disgusting if you ask me
It was just a joke btw ... If that's true, i.e. popups for those who are being upgraded (Heimdal PRO > Thor Foresight Home), I agree. I thought the popups occurred only if one now installed the Thor Home Premium trial, which includes Vigilance (Avira).
FWIW, I haven't had Heimdal/Thor popups at bootup time since I bought that discounted lifetime subscription for Heimdal Pro. Not sure if I've had popups at other times, either, except for the normal ones warning of a malicious website. This doesn't mean that they won't start popping up , but so far I haven't had any.
Also on discounted lifetime subs, I've had a few popups offering discounts on both laptops (20% I seem to recall) for Thor Premium. But I haven't been upgraded to Thor (Foresight Home) yet.
For those that are still interested or already have an old license, this is the 70% discount code: aug70nag
