<duh!> I never saw @khanyash screen (thank you for that) with the Delta Restore option... now I know why. The new mode only supports System Image & Partition mode restorations, not whole Disk images, which I was using. When using the proper modes/images, it works as advertised.

I personally don't see any difference in restoring a System image and restoring the whole Disk image to their original locations... Delta restore should be fully functional in both cases. I'll see if I can get an answer for that question.

All my other comments above are still valid... this is a DELTA RESTORATION implementation and as such is excellent. Some more testing is being done but it should be available soon as a released program version rather than a BETA. Great job, Hasleo!

They have stated that there's no reason why Disk images shouldn't have the same restoration characteristics as System or Partition restorations... they just haven't turned that on yet. Sounds like they will do it in the future...

That's what i am waiting for them to TURN ON soon i hope/As stated in some of my earlier posts a Full Image is a chief routine on this end. Wow they have really ramped it up several notches lately. Phenomenal

Users whose primary disk is only the System configuration (UEFI = EFI, MSR, OS & Recovery) and no added DATA partitions can use the System Image and get the DELTA restore feature (only with the BETA). At the moment, it's only those who take Disk/Partition images and have structures that include more than the above System configuration (like I do) AND only do whole disk restores (rather than single partitions) that don't have the new DELTA feature available.

I'm sure they'll add it shortly...

Hasleo Beta Version 4.0 (Beta 3) HERE
Delta restore is now available for disk restore.
No more features will be added to V4.0, which will be the last beta release of V4.0.

As @khanyash has mentioned above, the DELTA RESTORE feature for full disk images has been added in v4beta3... these guys are amazing with their response to feature requests! I only have one other feature request pending (single/multiple partition selection from a full disk image) with their developers... and I'm sure they're gonna add it during their next beta development cycle.

I really can't say enough about this development team... I'm just blown away! I'm guessing that all this new stuff will be available in the new v4 public release when they decide to make it... stay tuned!

With confidence building, I have decided to crank up my full Macrium REFLECT scheduling/retention algorithm within the Hasleo backup environment. A FULL image is taken on the 1st of each month @5:40pm, a DIFFERENTIAL image is taken weekly on Sundays at 5:40pm, and an INCREMENTAL is taken every hour daily starting at 9:40am and ending at 8:40pm.

I retain (2) FULL backups and 7-DAYs of INCREMENTAL backups... the DIFFERENTIALS accumulate until their parent FULL has been deleted. For me, this is the acid test of my required image management on this particular System. Let's see what happens...

Absolutely stunning how HBS Development team is been throughout this process, Fabulous Support.

And let's not forget to acknowledge @TheRollbackFrog who at many points of assembly offered valuable insights & contributions through both issues as well as excellent suggestions. That goes for others as well.

Just downloaded the v4.0 Beta 3 and am anxious to experience the results (especially on my Windows 8.1) :thumb:

Been following this thread with great interest...and perhaps a silly question perhaps...but are we saying here that when the upcoming new features go prime time...it may be seriously a case of considering ditching Macrium at the next charge point? :geek:

YMMV. You need to try it out and make sure it has all the features you need... that's the only way to know for sure. The Files'n'Folders aspect of this app is a bit strange (it works) so some users may balk. I'm primarily an imaging user myself, and so far it stands up very well to a basic Reflect PAID license.

I've always been a Macrium REFLECT fan, still am... but this product at this stage is excellent. Try it...

I have performed over 120 restores and 2 Delta restores with HBS yet with no issues. HBS is speedy and super reliable. It is now the primary backup solution on our systems. I only do System Backup and System Mode restore. Also, the Backup Plan is simple: Daily (Once) with Incremental Mode on systems I manage and Daily (Hourly) with Incremental Mode on my systems. My experience is with simple setups. @TheRollbackFrog showed HBS works superbly with complex setups.

Is a portable version of this planned or even possible so it doesn't have to be installed in the OS?

Not at the moment. The subject will be broached with the Developers.

    Hi @ Wilders

Can someone explain to me why Delta Restore is ONLY a tick box option (on backup) as opposed to the default method of Restore? Are there some downsides to Delta Restore? Otherwise why choose a slower method of Restore?

    Thank you

    Terry

Hi @TerryWood ! First of all, DELTA RESTORE is a brand new feature, just out of Alpha testing, and firmly entrenched in a Beta testing cycle as I type... in public hands. It would be a real mistake to make it the DEFAULT at this stage... as an option, it should remain. If all the testing proves it to be a solid feature, then I'm sure the Developers will most likely make it the DEFAULT, possibly in the first Public release of v4.

...but I'm sure, somewhat paranoid users would be happy for it to stay as a non-Default, it makes them feel safer:-*. Other users will charge ahead and use the feature for what it was built for... speed, and complain later if failures are detected that were missed in the Alpha/Beta testing cycles (which is somewhat common, BTW... programs wouldn't have "bugs" if they were all discovered during regression testing while in Alpha and Beta).

For the record, when Macrium REFLECT released the public version of their RDR (Rapid Delta Restore) feature, it was not the DEFAULT at the initial public release in 2015... it wasn't until later in that product's lifecycle that RDR was made the DEFAULT. I expect you may see the same thing here... makes sense to me.

I was reading the Hasleo Backup Suite thread on Windows 11 Forum, and the following comment was made.
Is it correct? If so, then that needs to be rectified.

You can use the "File mode" option under Restore to explore an image.

    Thanks for the clarification, khanyash.
There are a few negative comments about it on that forum. I'm starting to wonder how well they've tested it.

@Hadron - if you can steer me to the Windows 11 Forum you mentioned (not sure which one or where), I'd be more than willing to bring those Forum members up to date on the current status of Hasleo's Backup Suite (@khanyash and I have tested it quite extensively).

As far as "exploring the image" is concerned, @khanyash mention of the "File mode" is correct, although not in the normal way users expect. Most imaging apps now have the capability to MOUNT the image as a file structure, allowing users to copy necessary files to their LIVE System in an indigenous way, Hasleo does not have this in place yet. In our discussions with them, they have that function planned for in their existing product roadmap. Hope this helps!
