    @cruelsister -- Verrry interesting!

    @Bill_Bright -- SAS isn't exactly "promoting" Avira. They haven't advertised the fact that they're using Avira's stuff. People here discovered it by looking at SAS's inner workings. I am fairly certain that Emsisoft uses BD's stuff, & Vipre is also outsourcing for its sgs et alia. It's not at all rare for AVs to use other AV's sigs or even their engines.

    Dam, updated to the latest version and it uninstalled the old version and now I got the unwanted Avira junk. Also noticed that it took longer to update the def database as in most cases it was a few seconds and it took about a minute?

    Yes same here, the update took ages to finish.

    When you say it's still a cookie scanner. Did you have any like malware to test if it catches them?

    From SAS, you got, for FREE, a greatly improved AV by virtue of SAS adding some of Avira's components. Why do you feel it necessary to infer that SAS's efforts to improve its detection rate are a bad thing? I know you are a fan of Webroot but does that make it necessary to call Avira "junk"? At least Avira has the gumption to be repeatedly tested (and always does VERY well).

    So SAS detected cookies on your computer. Are you inferring that your computer is badly infected and SAS didn't discover that fact? If not, what is the intent of this subtle slur against SAS?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    @ all -- I joined Wilders quite a while ago. Over the years I have been very gratified to watch how the great majority of Wilders members have most always supported new security apps in their efforts to improve & get established. Moreover, Wilders members have most always supported improvement efforts by existing security apps. Yes, at times there have been some tough criticisms but in most all cases they were offered sincerely & kindly, with the positive aim of helping an app improve itself and remain economically viable.
    It makes me sad to see unnecessarily negative comments and innuendos about Avira and SAS, especially when they come from long-time members that I have high regard for.
    yeah the reason I asked is because you said it's still a cookie eater so I assumed that you had some malware there for testing but SAS failed to detect it and only detected the tracking cookies. IMO I like it for clearing those tracking cookies personally even though they may not be harmful and for people like me who have a life time license and now they added Avira components which is seen in the installation folder:
    I think it's a nice and welcome addition.
    Actually I have sometimes had my comments restrained or even deleted by a Mod. Yes, within limits, members are afforded a LOT of liberty in commenting here at Wilders. Liberty -- not license.
    I installed SAS Pro X, using Shadow Defender. The loading of files was very descriptive and those from Avira were separately, very distinctly, & specifically loaded and installed. I hope SAS gets their app tested soon -- hopefully by AV-Comparatives.
    Yes you are a little rough around the edges. Good Luck with SAS as I will only use it On-Demand once in a blue moon to eat up my cookies.
    I do not depend in luck.. only providence. As for SAS, I will follow it but I do not use any *traditional* AV. I drive much too fast to worry about malware or cholesterol.
    Based on the post above of anon, I guess that answers that. Nicely spotted, Spartan. :thumb:
    HitmanPro has several engines, including its own. This just has Avira? Hmm, all eggs in one basket if so. :doubt:
    And nicely spotted, "anon" for finding that Admin post on the SAS forum from just 1 hour ago.
    I have to say, however, this is very hokey at best. Typically, when some sort of merger is made, the marketing/PR teams from both sides ramp up with a huge marketing campaign in an attempt to "sell" the merger to all the existing customers out there to convince us how great this new deal is for us.
    But instead, this was all done quietly - secretly even. Instead of creating confidence in the new products, they instilled distrust. :(
    This SAS for this user is like discussing a Windows 98 program software that went extinct or at least dormant but is been given a reprieve and chance to stay relevant. That being said I said my peace on it. SAS early on after it's introduction wasn't terribly unreliable, in reality was like others at the time in that it could find (signature approved) malwares/traces and of course the tracking cookie thing. And I just moved on as HIPS moved in and Behavioral Blockers like CyberHawk!
    I do believe a gentleman named Nick S had SAS really percolating and I do know his support was very active for some time right here in the forums. So probably does his heart good to see it's new owners are trying to keep it viable among the mix of a very uncertain Windows 10 monopoly
    Thank you. SAS wast waiting for me to renew my ESET license. The moment I renewed my NOD32 license, this shows up the next day! I would've used it as my main AV since it has the Avira engine minus the stupid Avira launcher which made me stop using Avira's products for good.
    Much thanks to anon & Spartan for the info.
    SAS has just moved into the mainstream of AVs. I salute them and wish them success -- it's a difficult, highly competitive business arena they're in. I shall buy & donate some SAS subscriptions to a local school. Not for me, however -- I haven't used a *conventional* AV in a long time.
    Thank you all for your support of SUPERAntiSpyware. As you know, the Avira engine has a very good reputation for detecting malware. We are happy to offer it to our customers alongside our existing scanning engine. Our team is requesting your input regarding any product improvements you believe would be useful.
    Thank You
    The SUPERAntiSpyware Team
