I was closing down my PC last night and when the box opened with the option to stand by, turn off or restart came up the option to shut down said 'shut down and install updates'. There was a highlighted line below that said 'shut down without installing updates'. I chose that option.
This morning I switched the PC on and went to shut it down to see if that message was still there and it wasn't.o_O
Anyway I took a screen shot and here it is...

I never noticed any update icon in the systray that night so don't know if a windows update was downloaded or not.

(Latest Belarc Safety Advisor update shows no missing windows hotfixes)

    Machine is running XP Home.

    Thanks.

Yes. I have seen it before. On my own computer.
If I'm not mistaking you can get that screen if you have Windows set to download all available updates and ask you before installing them.

If you shut down the computer before you get the first prompt to install, that should be the result.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Thanks all. I'm off to windows updates to see what's what.:)

Yeah, there was one 'genuine windows validation' update available.

    Thanks again...
