That is sounding more and more like a "incremental" backup which most backup programs support. For those not familiar, a incremental backup creates a backup of only those files that have been added or changed since the last incremental backup ws performed.

These cards work with a driver which can be circumvented by malware. The card itself is only used for bringing up a menu during POST. It needs a driver to perform the actual snapshot/rollback (note that it doesn't support Linux or any other OS than Windows; this is an indication that it needs support from the operating system.

See also the first post in this thread.

Yes, I know that, but this supplier on its other cards (except this one and another 2) at the requirements, specifies card+driver or for the usb ones hardware + software sollution.

The cd for this one could be needed e.g. if you want to access the card bios/firmware and configure its settings, from windows or from Dos and not for using a driver to intercept the writes to the disks.

The manufacturer site is www.trankoo.com ,in case you want to ask them.

Its not about malware concern but malware research. CoreRestore is instant, can use or utilise two hard disks and supports other operating systems - its a little like FDISR crossed with a vm, a really nice tool to use for what I want it for.

pandlouk, thanks for the links

edit : btw CoreRestore first came out a long time ago but it was still around just a couple of years ago.
