I was Just wondering If for example u have a 20 gig hard drive and u have used about 10 gig of that hard drive, does your anti virus programme scan all the 20gigs or does It only scan the 10 gigs u have used up.

    Hi, the mul

If you mean 10GB Partition and 10GB Unformatted.
Then no your Anti Virus Program does no scan the 10GB Unformatted because it can not see it.

If this is what you meant, if not ignore this.

Yes I should have said 20gig partioned Is what I have and have been thinking of an upgrade to maybe 80 gig, but do not want to upgrade If this is going to make my av scan times longer by increasing the size of my hard drive.
Any way around this upgrade, to increase size without increasing scan time.
    Many thanks for any help.

I have an 80 gig HD and it takes no longer to scan it than it did on my last hard drive which was about 20 gigs. As far as i know an anti-virus does not scan empty space on a HD.

The size of the HDD will not make if take longer as it only scans file and folder.

    Not free the space.

ie:- 80GB HDD:- C:\15GB [OS files folders and data = 7gb]

Partition------:- D:\30GB [files folders and data = 10gb]

Partition------:- E:\35GB [files folders and data = 17gb]

Programs files and folders and Data 37GB. [Stored across all Partitions]

    Free space 43GB.

    Scanned Anti Virus By 37GB.

    Hope the Help.

as a general rule a large hard drive is faster than a small one, and two drives working together are faster than one. Your scans should go faster!!!
