Google is a computer software and a web search engine company that has been acquiring, on
average, more than one company per week since 2010.
The table below is an incomplete list of acquisitions, with each acquisition listed being
for the respective company in its entirety, unless otherwise specified.

    Acquisitions list Feb.12,2001 to Jan.13,2014 - total 141

It says on average more than one company per week since 2010.
This incomplete list is frequently updated to include new information.

    Missing months from list:

    January 2010 - 4.42 weeks
    November 2010 - 4.28 weeks
    February 2011 - 4 weeks
    January and February 2012 - 8.42 weeks
    May 2012 - 4.42 weeks
    December 2012 - 4.42 weeks
    January 2013 - 4.42 weeks
    July and August 2013 - 8.85 weeks
    November 2013 - 4.28 weeks
    total = 47.51 weeks

    84 companies bought since 2010 (141-57=84)
38 months total not including missing months
    52 weeks = 1 year

    210.00 weeks = Jan. 2010 - Jan. 14, 2014
    - 47.51 weeks = missing months
    162.49 weeks total

162.49 weeks divided by 84 = 1.934405 (1.93 companies per week acquired by Google if I did
    my math right)

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Thank You.

What exactly do people think Google plans to do when they buy these companies? I don't think people are quite understanding that Google is not a services provider in the traditional sense. They are an advertising company that provides services to collect data for and show ads. Why do they think they banned ad blockers from the GooglePlay store? Mobile ads are a gold mine and they aren't about to let them be blocked. Why do they think Google is handling third party images in Gmail and scanning personal messages for content that can be targeted back to them?

The sooner people understand that Google isn't a friendly company that provides nice, free things, the better off they'll be.

I don't intend to. I've found Google users to be extremely tolerant of the company. They'll groan on the forums for sure, but they won't quit the service. Google has no reason to rein in the stupidity if their users are going to be all bark and no bite.

Wow that is really stretching it to the point of being misleading. If you really want to calculate it this way, your statement should then be rephrased more accurately as:

"1.93 companies per week acquired if not counting the weeks for which there is no acquisition reported"

When a house is burning Google should send a message to your friends on G+ with the request for a free room for a few days/weeks/months. This way you might also find who are your real friends. Though, knowing the behavior of our mighty corporations, you might get some adds for hotel reservations while the burning alarm on your phone is ringing.
