Google plans to launch VPN service for consumers October 29, 2020 https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...aunch-vpn-service-for-consumers-idUSKBN27E39S Google: More online protection with the new VPN by Google One Coming soon: Increase your online security with the VPN by Google One
Well, are you guys planning to use this? One one hand, it's a household name, on the other hand we all know that Google really doesn't care about privacy.
Just another case of Google spreading their tenticles everywhere. There's been no privacy with Google for a very long time, if ever. That they would go in this direction is comical to say the least.
To be fair they don't mention "privacy" at all. They only mention security which would in this case come with huge price in decreased privacy.
Not a chance I just finally kicked the rest of the Google **** out of my non-chinese smartphone (Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2) by unlocking the bootloader, putting custom recovery (TWRP) and flashing the phone with LieageOS for microG. https://lineage.microg.org/ Zero Google **** For replacing Play Store I use F-droid for open source stuff. And if I *really* need some stuff that is not available nowhere else than in Play Store then I use Aurora Store with it's own built-in gmail account. So I don't ever need to link gmail account into my phone and let Big Brother TM follow what I do. And for e-mail and VPN? protonmail & protonvpn all the way (paying customer) For normal surfin? TorBrowser for Android For searching **** from net startpage.com or duckduckgo onion address 3g2upl4pq6kufc4m.onion

Google One VPN is now available on Windows and Mac By Taras Buria @TarasBuria - November 9, 2022 9To5Google: Google One VPN coming to desktop with Mac and Windows apps
From the article linked above: "One of the reasons people buy VPN services is to use geo-locked content and access various websites from different countries. This feature is not available for Google One users" Getting around country restrictions to watch the occasional video is one of the things I use a VPN for.
