    A calamity has occurred.

AdThwart users who update their extension will find the devil gone. In his/her place is the insipid ABP octagon familiar to Firefox users.

On reading about this (I ignore the broken https; it's been there for ages), I quickly copied my un-updated Adthwart extension folder to somewhere safe and then updated. True enough, my devil vanished. Now for some "reverse engineering" to see if I can bring him (or her) back.

Magically, clicking 'Edit filters as raw text' below what looked like an empty 'Add your own filters' page brought them all back. Keeping a plain text backup of one's filter rules is probably a good idea...

Would you prefer it to the AdBlock extension, and if so why ?

@Pinga, I mean the cute little devil in the address bar which has now become the boring ABP logo we have for FF.

Ocky and Pinga, no issues at all with AdThwart (now renamed AdBlock Plus for Chrome) at all.

My post about "the calamity" was referring to the change in logo from the grinning devil picture to the AdBlock Plus logo we have for Firefox as a consequence of the official renaming.

    Sorry about any confusion.

    I never tried Gundlach's AdBlock. I don't know why, but I just didn't.

I'm perfectly happy with Adthwart (now AdBlock Plus for Chrome) and I use it in conjunction with Privoxy.

Because it's the real thing. And because AdBlock copycat Michael Gundlach keeps asking for money in an inappropriate (for an open source project) way:
And yes, bring back the little devil!

    I brought him back :D .

I just renamed the icons of the previous version and had to change the color of one from reddish to green for the white-listed one.

If you have saved the old extension folder it should be relatively simple to figure out. The devs haven't tried to be obscure about the whole thing. Mostly, we just have to change "face-devilish" to "abp" in the icon names.

I guess we could also edit the manifest.json but I'd rather leave that unchanged.

AdBlock Plus for Google Chrome (Beta) is working fine here. New icon does not look beautiful at all. They should either replace it with old AdThwart icon or make a new 3D ABP icon.

I had the same experience of the empty 'Add your own filters' with the latest update. Shook me up a bit. Promptly backed up my "raw text".

Here is quick way to replace new ABP with old devil icon. Just download file from given link, extract it, and replace files from 'icons' folder located here: C:\Users\Your user name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions\cfhdojbkjhnklbpkdaibdccddilifddb\1.0.23_0\icons

Remember to close Google Chrome before replacing icons. Now start Google Chrome and enjoy happy devil again with new features.

Until the next update wipes them out - so you'd better keep a backup of those, too! :p

    Chrome Toolbox (by Google)

Works best with Windows. Some features aren't available for Linux & Mac.

Recommended for new users of Chrome.

    Re. AdBlock Plus for Chrome:

I found I had to white-list gmail.com in order to compose mail. If it wasn't white-listed, the compose text box appeared as a slim (~2-3 mm tall), full width rectangle, quite useless for anything.

    Can anyone confirm this?

@vasa1: Which filters have you subscribed in AdBlock Plus for Google Chrome (Beta).

Sorry, I forgot to say that I don't use any filter subscription. The bulk of my control is by Privoxy. I'm using ABPGC mainly for the ones that escape, mostly https sites.

I'm quite ashamed to say I don't know how to use Vimium (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dbepggeogbaibhgnhhndojpepiihcmeb)!

I've installed it on Chrome 10.0.612.3 (Official Build 69636) dev (Win XP SP3) and it is enabled but can't figure out how to do anything at all with it! It doesn't even show up next to the Wrench or in the omnibox (address bar).

Specifically, I'd like to try using it for search instead of ctrl+F. And I'm not trying to use it on the extensions page itself.

    I even looked here: https://github.com/philc/vimium/blob/master/README.markdown

    Help!

Okay! Vimium is too Unixy for me. Chrome's ctrl+f is good enough for non-Mensa types like moi.

Here's a relatively new extension, zoomWheel - Version: 1.0.1.0 which maybe of interest to those who want to see things a bit bigger. Chrome's default zoom changes are really gross. This extension allows even 1% increments.

I guess it is just another way of forcing people into using Google accounts and, eventually, Chome OS...
