Why can't they just giveaway things that don't need online activation?

 

Thanks. I don't like to deal with disgusting optical media but why not save a legit licensed installer of a respectable paid software, just in case.

 

What they mean is that there is no seperate exe file which has to be run to activate it. In such cases the activation is done from the main setup file, which does need to connect to the internet to make sure you are installing it before the giveaway has finished.

 

Ah, now i see! Thanks. So, i imagine, if i were to format and reinstall, i wouldn't be able to use it.

Yes that is the case sadly. Some giveaways require you to enter a serial number, which is either shown when you install the giveaway (in which case you can copy and paste it future use) or you have register online and it is emailed to you. Other than that, you are out of luck.

 

Thanks. Well, this type of software is completely useless for me, as sooner or later i will format. Fortunately there are many free alternatives for burning software out there, i was just curious to try it, maybe have it as backup... But no big deal.
