    Thanks for this,

I was just speaking to Dad on the phone and could not get anysense from him :)

I will send this down. He has been online today but when he clickd the main program interface it said definitions were 18th Dec

he saw it said upto update started 2pm and next update in o_O hrs.

Does Extndia release updates just once a day (KAV update) or release the same amount of updates that KAV releases (EG every 3 hours) for the single engine program.

    Cheers

Every 3 so they say I almost always get an update everytime I try, which is about 2x per day, once auto in the morning @ 0630 EDT, and then when I get home from work around 1500 EDT. You could just have hime set it to check every hour but to me that is over the top, unless he is surfing tons of Warez/Porn sites he should be ok with the dailies, IMO.

    Thanks likuidkewl,

In fact I just spoke to him and he did a manual update and said a very small file updated (probally AVP daily) so all working.

I am sending him the screen shot so he can change it.

The only thing that slighlty bothered me was he is on dial up. We updated manually the first time yesterday afternoon. He then has been on line but no update came.

What would be really good is a setting that automatically looks for update on internet conection (For dial up)

    Don't know if this exists?

I know mcaffee and avast and my Escan does this.

Thanks for all your and the other user's support. Excellent forum and quick replies so much appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Jlo

PS I set my Escan to check every 30mins. dont notice it checking and just get a pop up when it has downloaded something. As you said bit over the top but you never know when the next big mass mailer worm is going to hit.

    Hi likuidkewl and Solarpowered Candle,

An Update on the Update issues of Extendia.

I went round to my Fathers today and changed the setting as per your instructions.

As you know on default it checks once a day. Unfortunatly if you are on dial up and you are not on line the update fails and then will check again a day later at the same time (in the hope you are on line)

We changed the setting to start on start up and rebooted and contected to the internet but no update. (Defs still 19th Dec)

We then changed the setting to check at hourly intervals. We went on line just before the check was due and it updated perfectly in the background (Defs 20th)

He now knows that if he is on line just before 1p, 2pm, 3pm etc it will get updated. He will be on broadband when it becomes availble next year and this setting or the daily setting is fine but think dial up users have to be aware that if you are not on line when it checks it waits for the next scheduled date to update.

BTW I e mailed Boomerang software late Saturday GMT and got a reply first thing Monday morning which was quite quick repsone. Garry told me basically what you guys said.

Its a good program but a shame we can't get it to sense in internet conection and then carrry out the update (Which is important to dial up users) Anyway at least he knows how to update manually and he has more of a chance of randomly being on line beteen 2.59 and 3.04 or 3.59-4.04 etc etc etc :D than at 2.15 once every 24 hours!!! He would probally go months with out an update if we left it like that :D

Thanks for all your help. Would not have found the updater scheduling box with out you guys :)

    Best Wishes

    Jlo

    Hi,

In fact I was just reading through the PDF instructions that you can enter in username and password so when computer starts up or when the time occurs it will automatically dial in for the update which is good.

I still feel it is missing an option of 'update when internet conection established' is a shame when over AV's like Escan, Avast, Mcaffee Nod32 offer this. Nevermind. Only cost $9.99 and has KAV engine :D so will forgive it for this.

    Cheers

    Hi All,

Another update on my Dad's single Kav engined Extendia. It has just come up with the error 'KAV engine is corrupt contact support'

I told him to put in a tick for the version check to do a full download but nothing happened so he has now e mail tech support and we will see what happens.

Will report back with the outcome!

    Kind Regards

only once or twice. For some reason it decides that the update was not 100% and chooses to not accept it .

Anyone else notice the huge update today. That might have been why since your Dad is on dialup, just a thought.

    Hi SolarPowered Candle,

The exact problem he gets is on start up he gets the KAV data base corrupted. Once he clicks on the message it goes away until he next opens the program.

He clicked on update manually and then the message he gets is 'you are up to date'

I know there is a tick box which is ticked in version check under options. I am thinking that if you 'uncheck' this box it will download the full cumilitive update and hopfully correct the error.

He has not logged on this morning yet 'spoke to him on the phone' so don't know if he has recieved a reply from tech report.

My Escan is running no probs. Did not notice bit KAV update but then I am on broad band and it checks silently every 30 mins :)

    Cheers

    Jlo

I purchased gdata 6 months ago, and I will uninstall it. cause their support is the worst I have seen on the whole www. I cannot believe their policy. I am entitled to a free upgrade to version 2005 and they just don't respond. I have sent them three emails in three weeks, none of them are answered...:(

If your suggestion doesnt fix it you might want to reinstall it.

Hi infinity , I discovered some thing regarding communication with extendia. If I dont use the same email addy that I purchased avk with they dont respond.
I also send my acc/ details . For instance today I emailed them and received a reply within 3 hrs. Im still waiting for a reply to my email that I sent off 2 weeks ago using another email addy. Perhaps G data have the same policy.

I was told that the 2005 version will be available in english in the end January.
and this was recieved from Michael Zimmer b-vertrieb@gdata.de
If you sent it to the hotline email address goodluck because I have emailed them 4 times with no response once in German and 3 times in English.
