Yes, a regular practice. Every week they come out with a sale flyer which can be viewed on their website. It's not uncommon for security software to be free after rebate.

The Amazon site, under Product Features mentions: Exclusive McAfee Active Protection technology.
    That right?

Frys always has AVs free (or cheap) after rebate. I like the Newegg deals better, as they are less rebates to deal with. For instance Frys often has Norton free after 2 rebates, where Newegg will have it free after 1 rebate.

Thanks. I pointed it out to Amazon. Don't know how long it will take for them to fix it.

Probably will make a difference in their sales when they do remove it. ;)
