Just switched over from ISDN 64K to 1.5M ADSL.

Immediately at the point I installed the NIC driver my Winsock became corrupted.  I got "Winsock error", "cannot create socket", "critical error", etc. messages.

After the fifth time I restored my Win98SE system, I was checking an install log (I use InControl 5 from ZDNET) for Sygate Personal Firewall and found out it basically wrapped itself around Winsock like a tapeworm.  I removed SPF and was able to install my NIC driver with no further problems. RASPPOE driver installation also went without a hitch.

So here is the question: Anyone know which Freeware Firewall (sounds cheap doesn't it?) will not interfere with my Winsock operation and give me the best protection?
Thanks!  Presently, I'm hanging out here in the breeze and I don't feel safe.

lol well there are plenty of free firewalls out there.

So quicky download Kerio personal firewall from www.kerio.com

or Tiny Personal Firewall from www.tinysoftware.com

before the mad rush of weirdos who will promote all sorts of goofy free firewall things!

Be sure not to believe anything that Checkout character tells you ;)

    Hmmmmm.

Got me a copy of that Kerio Personal Firewall.  After I backup my system again (boy am I getting "install" shy), I'll drop it in and hope for the best.

Just  tired of seeing "Select the drive you want to restore."

Really, thanks for the recommendation it's much appreciated.

    Here goes..................................................
