It is one of the best AVs in detections and has a small performance impact according to AV-Comparatives, just some people do not know to disable an included junk.

I have seen AVG detect malware on occasion but I've never seen it successfully remove it. Even the newest versions do not seem able to remove detected PUPs.

Even at the price of free... I would not let my dog use AVG on his computer.

I mean I wouldn't use it even for free; it has too many processes, annoying bugs(some months ago I tested the free version on a virtual machine and it sometimes detected and removed Eicar, others detected and not remove it), slow and unreliable removal of malware.

AVG is on my 'forever ban' list.

It's crazy how many of AVG crappy toolbars I see on systems... It's like a virus itself. Worse, it doesn't remove properly, even with JRT. I found a background AVG process WEEKS after using a tool to remove it. Any company that loads PUA's into other things - like AVG does, is banned forever in my book. I love putting rules into Fortigate Appliances banning crappy companies like AVG, and anything even related to AVG.

...and it was AVG that took all the Ewido 'lifetime license' holders and screwed us.

Even though the Ewido guys were apparently given assurances that the lifetime licenses would be honored when Ewido was purchased by AVG, nope.

Good companies honor their commitments. Crappy companies like AVG don't.

But still, thank you OP for posting this. Although there are better options out there, Wilders appreciates your effort in informing us of this 'deal.'

I'm going to give this a try since I haven't installed AVG for over ten years. I've actually never liked AVG, but since this is free I figure why not give it a try.

My wife had.....key word HAD........ AVG on her desktop. She had used it for years. Last year, her computer got hit with some kind of email bug (a guess on my part). Whatever it was, AVG did nothing, said nothing, showed nothing. We finally ended up having to reformat and reinstall.

Now, she's copied me. We both run Toolwiz Time Freeze and free Bitdefender. Maybe not a perfect setup but she's sworn off AVG.

AVG Internet Security is a product I have used constantly since 2006. Indeed there were a lot of bugs in the engine, but they have been reliably sorted out now. It is reasonably (but not absolutely) light on the system and has good detection rates. It has saved my computer from malware several times. It was not historically very good on the removal front, but recent updates to the engine seem to be making progress on this front.

My only complaint is that AVG has a problem with FPs at times and do not seem to use the cloud to the fullest extent. Otherwise, it has been reliable and steadfast in all these years for PC protection.

Yes. I thought I'd seen that license key before... like here.
Looks to me like an email address harvesting scheme.

I had the same experience on a customers computer recently. There was leftover file (I forget it was driver or service) from uninstalling AVG. Even their own removal tool did not remove it, so I had to delete it manually.
